Chapter 2 You Waited for Me for Three Years, I'll Protect You for the Rest of Your Life!

  • The person was none other than Dominic Lyon, the general manager of Evergrain Enterprise, a man worth over a billion.
  • Dominic walked up to Giselle, glanced at Roman with disdain, and then took out a hundred-dollar bill, throwing it at Roman's feet. "Take the money and get lost, you filthy hobo!"
  • Clearly, the scion mistook Roman for a begging vagrant.
  • Roman gazed unmoving at the note as a glint of malice flickered in his eyes.
  • Meanwhile, Dominic turned to Giselle. "Giselle, your grandmother's birthday party isn't over yet, and I still need to propose to you in front of your family. C'mon, go back inside with me."
  • As he spoke, he reached out to grab Giselle's arm. But Giselle stepped back. "Dominic, Roman has returned, so I won't be marrying you!"
  • "What? That loser is back? Where is he?" Dominic's body jolted as he spoke.
  • "He's right there," Giselle pointed at Roman.
  • Dominic turned in the direction she pointed toward and turned grimly, realizing the hobo he tried to chase away was Roman.
  • "Weren't you supposed to be dead? Why did you suddenly return?!" Dominic snapped, shocked and furious. Since Roman disappeared three years ago, he had been tirelessly pursuing Giselle and currying favor with the Chaplins.
  • He had even promised that if Giselle married him, Evergrain Enterprises would form a strategic partnership with the Chaplin family business, helping them through their difficulties.
  • Now, with the Chaplin family businesses facing problems, Florence had forced Giselle to remarry Dominic for the family's interests. And Dominic thought he already had this in the bag, but who'd have thought Roman would suddenly return?! Naturally, he would be livid.
  • "Giselle, that loser mysteriously disappeared for three years. Who knows what he's been up to all this time? Don't tell me you want to get back together with him!" Dominic incredulously questioned Giselle.
  • "Whether I reconcile with him or not is none of your business. In any case, I won't marry you as Grandma arranged!" Giselle said plainly.
  • "You're such an idiot, Giselle, waiting three whole years for that loser!" Dominic sneered. "Giselle Chaplin, if you don't marry me, I'll cancel the strategic partnership, and your family will face bankruptcy!"
  • Naturally, Dominic's threat made Giselle's countenance turn grim. She was a career-driven woman, currently serving as the marketing deputy manager in their family business. She certainly didn't want to see her family business go bankrupt.
  • "Don't worry. With me here, the Chaplin Family business won't go bankrupt. In fact, it will become even more glorious!" Roman suddenly spoke up, his tone unwavering and serious, shocking Dominic and Giselle.
  • Immediately, Dominic burst into laughter. "Roman, everyone knows you're a top-tier loser. Now, after disappearing for three years and returning as a beggar, how dare you make such bold claims?!"
  • Roman looked at Giselle, speaking earnestly, "Giselle, rest assured, no matter what difficulties your family faces, with me around, everything can be resolved."
  • "Giselle, don't tell me you believe this incompetent idiot's words!" Dominic turned to Giselle, who took a gander at Roman's sober countenance and said, "Whether I believe him or not, I won't marry you."
  • "You…" Dominic was rendered at a loss for words.
  • Suddenly, Roman bore into Dominic, asking, "Tell me, is your father Preston Lyon?"
  • "Yes, that's him. But how dare a loser like you call him by his name?! You're asking for death!" Dominic scolded angrily.
  • Roman, on the other hand, turned malicious upon confirming that Dominic's father was indeed Preston, and an intimidating aura surged around him, making those around him cower in fear.
  • "Preston's son, huh? Perfect. Kneel before me, then." Roman's gaze locked onto Dominic, his voice cold and commanding.
  • "What?! How dare you loser tell me to kneel to you?! Who the f*ck do you think you are?! F*ck, I'll send you to hell!" Dominic flipped out, finding it utterly ridiculous that the notorious loser would demand him to kneel.
  • At that, he threw a punch at Roman. However, before his punch could reach Roman, Roman's figure moved like lightning and appeared in front of Dominic.
  • "Kneel!" Roman demanded again, and two sharp sounds of bone breaking echoed, followed by Dominic's scream. With a "thud," he knelt on the ground, facing Roman.
  • On the side, Giselle's eyes widened in shock. What is Roman doing, attacking again?! Also… he moved so quickly!
  • "Jack*ss, you're asking for death! Do you know who I am? I'm the heir of Evergrain Enterprises, a billionaire—"
  • Smack!
  • Alas, before Dominic could finish speaking, Roman slapped him across the face, sending him sprawling. Next, Roman kicked him ruthlessly in the face.
  • "Who you are doesn't matter. What matters is that you're Preston Lyon's son."
  • Roman's expression was cold, his eyes filled with malice. His actions were ruthless and unrelenting, causing Giselle to watch in horror. While she didn't know why Roman became so violent suddenly, she feared he would kill Dominic. "Roman, that's enough…" she hurriedly implored.
  • "Giselle, this is my family's business. Stay out of it," Roman warned, startling Giselle slightly and quickly shut up. All she knew about Roman was that he was an orphan brought home by her grandfather. She knew nothing about his background. So, she was rather surprised to hear that Roman had a business to settle. Could it be related to the Lyons?
  • By this point, Dominic had been beaten to a pulp, barely clinging to life.
  • Roman withdrew his foot and pulled a wooden box out from the woven bag. The box was only about the size of two palms and turned out to be a miniature urn.
  • After placing the urn in Dominic's arms, he said slowly, "Take this urn back to your father and tell him that the remnant he spoke of has returned. Tell him to wait at home for his death. This urn is handcrafted from Italisia, specially prepared for him."
  • Dominic, looking at Roman, shuddered violently and cried out in horror, "You are that remn—"
  • Bam!
  • Before Dominic could finish speaking, Roman knocked him unconscious with a kick. Muttering to himself, he said, "Yes, to you people, I am that waste, that remnant of the Liddell family! Now, I'm back…"
  • Then, he turned to the stunned Giselle. "Giselle, I told you before, I will make you proud to be my wife! You waited for me for three years, so I will spend my life loving and protecting you!"
  • At that, Roman slung the woven bag over his shoulder and walked away, muttering to himself again, "Eight more urns. Time to meet the next guy…"
  • Watching Roman's lonely, lean figure and then looking at the severely beaten Dominic, a glimmer of light appeared in Giselle's eyes. He's… different now.
