Chapter 12 I Will Make You the Brightest Star!
- Giselle fixed her gaze and saw Roman approaching.
- The young man was dressed casually in a crew cut that day, looking neat and tidy, which slightly surprised Giselle. He seems… a little hotter than before!
- "Giselle, raise your hand and slap her face!" Roman repeated upon arriving next to her.
- "What did you say?! Who do you think you are, telling her to hit me?" Upon hearing Roman telling Giselle to hit her, the fat woman became furious and cursed at Roman.
- "Hey, I know that guy!" exclaimed a bystander. "He's Giselle's live-in husband! That vagabond of a loser!"
- Others began joining in. "So, he's the loser, huh? Word on the street is that he's an orphan from the countryside, too! What a shame, such a beautiful woman, married to a hill—no, a piece of sh*t!"
- Roman looked at Giselle and said earnestly, "Giselle, listen to me, slap her face. Any consequences, I'll take care of it."
- Giselle bit hard on her lip in response while the fat woman continued insulting Giselle, calling her a wh*re and whatnot.
- "Forget it, can't afford to provoke her, but I can avoid her." Giselle shook her head, ultimately deciding not to slap the woman. She was still rational. Although Roman instigated her to hit the fat woman, and although this would vent her frustration, it would certainly stir up trouble. In the end, she chose to endure it silently.
- At that, she turned and walked away.
- "Giselle..." Roman watched Giselle leave, a trace of self-reproach and heartache flashing in his eyes. He knew that although his wife seemed strong on the surface, she was actually quite kind, fragile, and rational inside.
- The fat woman, on the other hand, immediately became smug upon seeing Giselle run away and shouted, "Yeah, run away, you loser-f*cking sl*t! I'd like to see you challenge me again!"
- "Are you done cursing?" Roman suddenly locked eyes with the fat woman, his gaze cold.
- Startled by Roman's gaze, the plump woman jolted, showing a hint of fear beneath her eyes, but then she stood tall and cursed at Roman instead. "What if I'm not done cursing, huh? What's it to you?! How dare you instigate your wh*re of a wife to hit me?!"
- Smack!
- Having had enough of her cursing, Roman slapped the fat woman across the face, not letting her finish. The slap was quite heavy, almost knocking the fat woman's pudgy body over.
- Roman's sudden act of violence shocked everyone present. They couldn't believe the city loser hit someone, and a woman at that.
- "You son of a b*tch! How dare you hit me?! Do you know who I am? I'm Lucinda Walsch, the vice president of Longcrest Holdings. Prepare to die!" The fat woman roared.
- "Is that so? Longcrest Holdings, hmm? I'll remember that! From now on, Longcrest Holdings is blacklisted by Christopher & Co., and there will be no further dealings!" Roman said coldly.
- "What did you say? Blacklist our company?! Who the hell do you think you are, you f*cking loser?" Lucinda shouted.
- Meanwhile, Roman's attention was on his wife, who was almost disappearing from his sight at this point. No longer wanting to waste time on Lucinda, he shot her a disdainful look and chased after Giselle.
- "You bastard, mongrel! This isn't the last you'll hear from me!" Lucinda yelled from behind.
- Meanwhile, Giselle had run to a corner, her eyes red-rimmed from oncoming tears and her face looking grim. Since marrying Roman, her days had never been smooth sailing. Either she was mocked and ridiculed by her family, or strangers inexplicably bullied her…
- "What did I do to deserve such a miserable life?!" Giselle muttered under her breath.
- Just then, Roman approached, guilt-ridden. "Giselle, are you… are you okay?"
- "I'm fine." As fragile as Giselle actually was, she never showed her vulnerability. She pretended to be strong on the surface.
- "I'm sorry…" Roman apologized suddenly, feeling wholly remorseful. He was well aware that he was the direct reason for Giselle's situation. Since becoming the Chaplin Family's son-in-law, Giselle had been subjected to constant ridicule. Moreover, because of his infamous profile, Giselle often couldn't socialize properly and even became the butt of jokes.
- The past Roman would suck it all up. However, Giselle was different. She had a strong spirit, and being treated like this was truly painful and unimaginably distressing.
- "It's not your fault; it's my fate…" Giselle glanced at Roman, her tone desolate.
- "No, it's my fault. If it weren't for me, you probably wouldn't be in this situation now. But I promise you, from this moment on, I will make you the brightest star in the world!" Roman vowed.
- "Roman, can you stop boasting? I know you come from a difficult background; you're an orphan, and you want to prove yourself! But achieving something requires hard work and perseverance, not just empty talk!" Giselle gazed resentfully at him, and Roman smiled bitterly, musing, Oh, my silly wife. You have no idea who stands before you. But you can't know yet…
- "You're right, honey. I can't just boast. I will work hard and make progress step by step!" Roman clenched his fist, promising.
- "Whatever, I'm done with you. I have to go wait in line." Giselle shook her head, took her folder, and adjusted her expression and demeanor…
- Meanwhile, Roman admired his wife, secretly proud. My wife is such a beauty!
- Once Giselle was ready, she went to join the queue.
- "Honey, are you going to discuss collaboration with Miss Ivory?" Roman followed behind.
- "Yes, my family has pinned all their hopes on me now, insisting that I come to ask Miss Ivory for orders. But too many people want to see her. I can only line up for an appointment." Giselle said self-deprecatingly. She and Celeste used to be the campus belles, and she even overshadowed Celeste. But now, she had to queue up just to see Celeste. Thinking about it, she felt like a failure, and it was laughable.
- Roman's eyes flickered, and he said, "That's a piece of cake! I can take you to her right now if you want!"
- "You?" Giselle was stunned. She looked at Roman for a long time before bursting into a wry laughter. "Stop messing with me, Roman. Miss Ivory is the joint CEO of Christopher & Co. and Evergrain Enterprises, controlling assets worth billions, and you tell me you can take me to her right now?! Who do you think you are?"
- Before Roman could speak, a mocking laughter traveled over. "He's nothing but a loser; that's what he is, Giselle!"
