Chapter 886 Are We Going to Be Late

  • Inside the room, the cute decor—so different from the queenly aura she usually carried—left Damon King stunned. Pink carpets, a pink bedspread, even the lamp shaped like a moon. And Bai Lin had slipped out of her work outfit and shoes, trading them for her pink bunny slippers. She was still in black stockings, bent over to find Damon some slippers, the lines of her legs traced perfectly by the sheer black fabric. “So…so gorgeous…” Damon’s eyes lit up with a hungry gleam. Bai Lin looked up and caught him staring right at her legs. “You jerk!” A slipper flew straight at his face. Smack. Damon didn’t dodge. It landed, leaving a slipper print on his cheek. “Oh no, are you okay?” Bai Lin thought he’d dodge, but he took it full on. She ran over, heart aching, and guided him to the couch. “I’m gonna shower. Wait for me.” She soothed him, then slipped into the bathroom. Water began to fall, tapping steady. Damon couldn’t shake the image of her in black stockings; his face went hot. “No more thinking!” He blew out a breath and forced himself to meditate, steadying his mind… “I’m done.” The bathroom door opened, and a sweet scent spilled out like a wave. Bai Lin stepped out wearing only a thin shirt and shorts, still toweling droplets from her hair. Damon heard her and opened his eyes. Right away, the shirt framed her curves, and that perfume hit him like a drug. He blinked hard; who’d have thought the first girl’s bedroom he’d ever set foot in would be Bai Lin’s? Down below, his “little brother” twitched, not behaving. Bai Lin caught it, cheeks reddening as she pointed at his lap. Damon glanced down. He’d thought he’d never like anyone besides Anya Anson, but his body just answered for him. “S-sorry. I didn’t mean it.” In an instant, he turned boyish and shy again. He was only twenty, after all—of course he’d fall for a woman like Bai Lin. Bai Lin laughed. “You. Go shower.” Damon bolted for the bathroom and shut the door, his heart hammering. Thump… thump… He leaned back against the tiles, took a moment to breathe, then finally started washing up. Outside, with the water running, Bai Lin couldn’t hold her own feelings down. She sat on the couch, face flushed, staring at the moonlight outside the window, trying to calm the storm inside. She’d never imagined she’d fall for a guy four years younger. But it happened the moment she first saw Damon. His looks hit her hard, and her little sister kept bragging about his body right in front of her. Before long, Damon stepped out in a shirt, eight-pack carved like stone—clean lines, lean build, everything perfectly balanced. Too little anywhere and it would lose its beauty. Now it was Bai Lin’s turn to be awkward. Her reaction was even more intense than his earlier. Drool actually slipped from the corner of her mouth. “Oh my God!” she squealed, rushing up to Damon, eyes locked on his abs. Damon froze. He let her touch. After a long moment, “We should probably sleep…” he said, glancing down at her hand still on him. The drool at her lips didn’t stop, but it wasn’t too much. “Oh… oh, right…” She came back to herself, stood, and walked to the bed. In the moonlight, her cheeks were soft and rosy. Damon followed, plopped onto the mattress. “Good night, Bai Lin.” He shut his eyes. Bai Lin watched him drift off, heart pounding like crazy. “Does this count as a first…?” She lay down too, slowly closing her eyes, secretly hoping Damon would roll over and hold her. —————————— The next morning. Damon woke first, looking at Bai Lin still fast asleep beside him. He got up and headed to the kitchen. The top-tier tents in District Thirteen were as fancy as it gets—private shower, private toilet, plus a living room and kitchen. Small, sure, but everything you need in one place. An hour later, Damon carried out two breakfasts from the kitchen, then went to the bathroom to wash up. He’d just finished when Bai Lin blinked awake, groggy. “Damon… what time is it… are we gonna be late…?” she yawned, rubbing her eyes. She sniffed the air. “Wow! Damon, you’re amazing—you even made me breakfast.” In her memory, only her Grandpa and her little sister had treated her this well. Damon had already squeezed toothpaste for her, called her over to wash up, then sat in the living room and started eating. Once Bai Lin finished and changed into her work suit, she sat down beside him, taking a big bite of the sandwich he made and a sip of milk.
