Chapter 1758 A Gluttonous Feast

  • The three overlords had never, ever been ordered around with such cheerful ease. Even an overlord can’t ignore a temptation this huge. Resurrection. How much had they paid? They’d burned through every last reserve just to get here. Damon King hadn’t explained a thing after he returned, but they all knew—something must’ve happened down south. Even if it’s only temporary, it’s a win worth celebrating. The three hustled to point out familiar faces. Whether from the Realm of Life and Death or the Sword Domain, they were all their own people, their auras familiar—one sweep and you could find them. As for the Dragon King and the Demon Butterfly, no need to think hard: anything with chaotic aura gets revived—if it isn’t a monster, it’s a chaos beast. Enemy or not, so what? Who’d still dare fight back? “Ah—” The first person woke. No surprise—it was from the Realm of Life and Death. Do anything enough times and you get good at it. Even resurrection. “City Lord.” Who’d have thought the first to wake would be Fu Yu. The guy popped up buzzing with excitement: “We won, right?” Damon King smiled. “Sort of.” “Good.” Fu Yu was over the moon. “I knew it. City Lord, you’d turn the tide.” That was pure trust. Fu Yu believed even if they won, it had to be the City Lord saving the day at the last second. This guy… Damon shook his head. “How many times have you revived now?” “Uh…” Fu Yu shut up fast. He was about to run out of chances. One familiar figure after another stirred from the long river. Sadly, some would never be seen again—Bi Tian was one of them. “Sigh.” Damon breathed out. Chaos is like that. Life and death have limits. “City Lord Damon.” The Swordmaster came over, fist to palm. “That’s all of them.” Behind him trailed a dense scatter of loose souls, all hovering up from the long river, found and gathered by him. Everyone was here—not one missing. “Mm.” Damon nodded. “Drag a few more worlds over. We’re short on energy.” “Got it.” The Swordmaster turned and strode off. The Demon Butterfly shot a glance back; several emperors got the message and took off quick. Soon, one world after another was hauled in. “Rise.” Damon got busy all over again. More and more people. The four powers all had souls—if you searched, you could find them. Worth mentioning: on the chaos beast side, the revived were so many it made you want to groan. “You two… that’s enough…” Damon looked helplessly at the Demon Butterfly and the Dragon King. These two just wouldn’t quit. The Dragon King at least kept a shred of dignity; the Demon Butterfly had none—she kept picking through the long river, doesn’t matter if she knows them or not. As long as it’s a chaos beast, revive them all. “Ahem.” Even the burly Dragon King looked a little embarrassed. “Demon Butterfly, that’s enough.” At that, the Demon Butterfly—still rummaging in the river—reluctantly came back, then scattered one last handful of soul-sense. “Just these last ones.” Damon: “…” Another hundred plus. Damon’s teeth ached. The Demon Butterfly shifted into a little girl—her true form—grinning. “Thanks, City Lord.” An overlord acting all cutesy. It left people speechless. He had no choice but to revive that last batch of a hundred-something souls. Anyway, more chaos beasts is a good thing. Makes breaking out of worlds easier for everyone. “Whew.” That flurry of work wore Damon out. His body was fine—it was the mental burn that hit hard. “Okay.” Damon said, “We can keep pushing the invasion. Lots more people need reviving. Next up are the Emperors. We’ll need a lot more energy.” “Let’s go.” Hearing that, the Demon Butterfly spun on her heel and left. Damon clearly heard her whisper to a tiger beside her: “Hurry back north. Drag the world my clan uses as a graveyard…” Damon: “…” The tiger sneaked a look at Damon, then bolted. “Old Dragon.” Damon sighed. Only way to balance things was through the Dragon King. “Hmph.” The Dragon King barked, voice like thunder: “Thief! You still dare resist? Think this king doesn’t exist? Kill—” He charged a Fourth-Tier Heavenly Emperor with full swagger. Damon: “???” That excuse… sure, fine. … Not long after, the Five Elements Thunder Emperor arrived. Everyone knew what the Yin-Yang Dao Master wanted. Without the Dao Master’s help, they wouldn’t have won—wouldn’t even have had a sliver of a chance. Everyone agreed the Dao Master would take ten Eighth-Tier megaworlds. The Thunder Emperor bowed from afar and didn’t touch any unclaimed worlds. The western worlds were many—after a million years, there were over a hundred Eighth-Tier ones. Very soon, the Thunder Emperor took ten worlds with his own hands and hauled them away. He looked reluctant as he left. But the Dao Master had given orders, so he could only drag ten worlds away, unwilling as he was. And so, a gluttonous feast began. One megaworld after another fell and was gathered together. No one moved on them yet—everybody knew these worlds were meant to revive the top-tier fighters. Only after everyone was brought back would they share the feast. … While Damon and the rest savored this gluttonous spread, in a boundless void far, far away—separate from chaos by layers of empty space—three stone statues stood tall. And the three statues opened their eyes. “Light.” One statue spoke. “Tried to steal a chicken, lost the rice—your hometown just got looted.” “……” The statue of Light said nothing for a long while. Only the fury burning in his eyes showed his rage. The third statue spoke. “Won’t be long before we refine all of the Thunder Lord’s power. Then we’ll walk out free.” “Tsk, tsk.” The first statue said, “Light, your home is gone. You’re not going out to guard it?” The Lord of Light let out a cold laugh. “If I leave, I’m just handing all the energy to you two.” “No, no.” The other kept talking. “I’m thinking of you. Home’s gone and you’re still roaming? If it were me, I couldn’t stand it.” “Hmph.” The Lord of Light snorted and shut his eyes. Out of sight, out of mind. These two were dying for him to leave so they could swallow the Thunder Lord’s legacy alone. Back in the day, the three of them joined forces and ambushed the Thunder Lord here. The Thunder Lord’s legacy alone had benefited them a ton. And there were other powers too. More than just three joined the siege—there were six. The Thunder Lord was too strong; he fought to the death and took three with him before they finally cut him down at the last second. Even remembering it now made their hearts jump. The Thunder Lord’s power was enough to claim a seat in the Upper Three Heavens. The six who teamed up never imagined the Thunder Lord would be that strong. Nine heavens and ten lands—it’s divided strictly by strength. The Upper Three Heavens are the public’s pick for strongest. After a long silence, seeing the Lord of Light refuse to speak, the other two statues closed their eyes too. What a pity. If Light walked away, they could split more. But the guy’s hometown got wiped and he still won’t go. Talk about stubborn.
