Chapter 3 Anya Becomes a Laughing Stock

  • "Deimos King speaking, get me the location information from a phone call and send it to me within a minute!"
  • Damon said. He then ended the call, striding toward the door.
  • Sin Club.
  • In a luxurious private room.
  • Dressed in a white gown, Anya was clinking glasses with a few cheesy middle-aged men.
  • Though she didn't particularly enjoy such social events, two of the investors present today were exceptionally powerful. Gaining their favour and securing a few million from them could resolve her family's current crisis.
  • Therefore, no matter what it took, she had to win over those two men today.
  • Anya had just put down her phone when a young man sat down beside her.
  • "Ms. Anson, why do you look so troubled?"
  • Anya's heart raced as she saw the man. His name was Morris Long, the heir of the prestigious Longs, which rank tenth in Cracsa. Morris also happened to be the CEO of Long Group.
  • Before Anya could respond, a sultry voice rang out.
  • "Well, isn't this our former school belle?"
  • With those words, a flamboyantly dressed woman swayed her hips seductively as she walked over.
  • Anya was momentarily shocked; she didn't recognise the woman.
  • "What's the matter? Anya, don't you recognise me?" The flamboyant woman laughed coquettishly, though her words carried a hint of mockery. "Great wits have short memories.. You don't even recognise your classmate anymore, haha."
  • "A classmate?"
  • Anya was even more confused. She had no memory of this person.
  • "Shana, do you know each other?" Morris asked with a smile.
  • "Shana Snow?"
  • Anya suddenly realised.
  • Shana was indeed her high school classmate. The woman before her looked completely different from the Shana she remembered; no wonder she didn't recognise her.
  • Shana smiled charmingly and said, "Oh, we know each other well. I even know why she's upset!"
  • "Do tell," Morris said with interest.
  • Shana said, "It's probably because of her husband!"
  • "Husband?"
  • Morris's expression darkened slightly.
  • "Yes, her husband is quite something. He cooks, cleans, and even rides an electric bike exceptionally well. They call him the Takeout Titan."
  • Shana's exaggerated expression and her tone were full of sarcasm.
  • Her words filled the room with commotion.
  • "So, Ms. Anson married a delivery boy, huh? Tsk tsk."
  • "Haha, Anya, you're at the fault here. How much can a delivery boy earn? Let him drive for me; I'll pay him ten thousand a month."
  • ...
  • Shana couldn't be happier when Anya was embarrassed.
  • "Yeah, Anya, you've been married for years, but your husband hasn't even bought you a ring. He did well at delivering takeout, but with his salary, when will he ever afford a ring for you?"
  • "You, I ... "
  • Anya's cheeks turned bright red. She hurriedly hid her hands behind her back, feeling both ashamed and angry. Anya said, "It's not that ... I just didn't wear it today."
  • Everyone could see she was trying to cover up something.
  • "He can't even afford a ring. He's really not a qualified husband, is he?"
  • ...
  • Listening to those mocking words, Anya's expression turned murky. She bit her lip and wished she could disappear.
  • She wouldn't be in this situation, facing ridicule and humiliation, if her grandfather, Vergil Anson, hadn't forced her to marry Damon three years ago.
  • The feeling of unwillingness and humiliation surged into her chest like a tide, making her heart pound incessantly.
  • Just then, Morris suddenly smiled and said, "Ms. Anson, I happen to have a diamond ring here. Let's see if you like it."
  • As he spoke, Morris pulled out a delicate box from his pocket.
  • When he opened it, he discovered a woman's ring adorned with a diamond the size of a pigeon egg. It looked dazzlingly brilliant.
  • The room instantly fell silent.
  • Everyone couldn't help but widen their eyes in disbelief.
  • Shana's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.
  • Even Anya's heart started beating faster; like a startled deer, her face gradually turned red.
  • Morris was the heir of the Longs. He was young and wealthy.
  • Though known for his womanising ways, he seemed far better than her useless husband.
  • If she could win his favour, perhaps all her problems would be solved.
  • Anya was tempted.
  • "I ... "
  • Anya lowered her head, just about to speak, when the door to the private room suddenly kicked open with a bang.
  • Then, a majestic voice boomed in everyone's ears.
