Chapter 6

  • They glanced at each other, watching Emily being wheeled away by the medical staff.
  • The atmosphere was very tense for a moment, and no one spoke again.
  • Holly tugged at her brother's clothes and whispered, asking, "If Emily really has late-stage lung cancer, why didn't she say anything?"
  • Ethan frowned and muttered to himself, "I almost got fooled again. With Emily's dark personality, if she really had late-stage lung cancer, she would have definitely made a fuss for sympathy."
  • Jasper kept his eyes on Emily until the lights in the operating room lit up.
  • He shrugged and chuckled. Looking at this group of idiots with disgust, he said, "The dark personalities are all in your family. Emily is the only normal one."
  • "To the actress miss,” he said, his attention on Holly. “I don't see any injuries on you. Go home and do your laundry."
  • Then he added, “To the two gentlemen with low intelligence, go home and serve the little princess so you won’t bring bad luck and affect Emily.”
  • After saying that, he turned and left. He couldn't stand being around the three idiots for even a second.
  • That day, Emily had someone accompany her in the hospital for the first time.
  • Jasper didn't know what had gotten into him. Normally, he wasn't the type to meddle in other people's business.
  • But this time, he waited at the door of the operating room for five hours until the girl was wheeled into the ward.
  • The doctor said she was out of danger and needed to rest and be monitored.
  • When Emily woke up, she saw Jasper standing by the window with a cup of coffee.
  • The cold glass reflected his face in the night, noble and a bit stern.
  • He heard the faint sound of the sheets rustling and immediately squinted his eyes and smiled at her.
  • "You’re awake, my number one fan."
  • "How are you feeling?” he asked. “Happy to have had an unforgettable day?"
  • With a mildly playful tone, he said, "First, you were fighting with your idol about hiring a hitman in the black market, and then you had a ‘Fast and Furious’ moment on the cross-sea bridge."
  • His voice was light, always carrying a note of humor that could dispel all pain, making Emily unable to stop herself from smiling.
  • "Oh, this is the first time I've been so close to my idol. It has to be a unique moment."
  • "It's truly an honor to be held by J.D.,” she said sincerely, “but... even though our meeting was so romantic..."
  • "I can't give up my hitman and undertaker.”
  • Emily's voice was weak, but her tone was firm.
  • The moonlight gently spilled down, and the girl looked as fragile as a piece of porcelain—so beautiful yet seeming like it would shatter at a touch.
  • Emily stared at the ceiling, and her tone was filled with undeniable sadness when she spoke.
  • "Twelve years ago today, my dad died on the way to the amusement park on that bridge across the sea."
  • "He was the only one who loved me. Only him, so... I hope when I see him, I'll be beautiful in the way he loved the most."
  • Jasper's blue eyes looked over, like cracked glaciers, carrying a delicate and melancholic feeling.
  • "Are you willing to watch your idol die in such an ugly way?"
  • Emily turned her face away and sighed softly. "Jasper, I won't act as if I have no sense of boundary and pry about why you want to die. I just want to tell you, you and I are different."
  • "No one loves me except for my dad,” she continued, voice still soft, “but you have so many fans; so many people love you."
  • But Jasper didn’t seem to hear her, lost in his own thoughts. Suddenly, he changed the subject.
  • "Miss Emily, why not choose the amusement park as the place of death?"
  • Emily blinked. "What?"
  • "Your dad would want to see you happy like a little princess in the amusement park, wouldn't he?" Jasper asked.
  • Emily was stunned.
  • Jasper continued to tease Emily gently, his tone sounding like the ending of a fairy tale.
  • "Think about it. If you die on the bridge, causing a traffic jam, you'll quickly be taken away by the police and thrown into the incinerator."
  • "That hitman agency doesn't seem very reliable. What if they can't make it in time to do your makeup? Then your plan will be ruined!"
  • His voice was like the enchanted flute in a fairy tale, drawing Emily along with his thoughts.
  • "Coincidentally, the amusement park is also one of my backup death locations. We're so fated, so why not accompany each other? Together?"
  • "And,” Jasper rambled on, “at the amusement park, I can sing for you again after my comeback. You'll be my number one fan."
  • With his magnetic voice, this strange yet somewhat enticing agreement inexplicably stirred something in Emily's heart.
  • "Okay."
  • Emily heard herself agreeing, with a hint of imperceptible laughter in her voice.
  • "It's settled then. Seven days from now at dusk, when the amusement park closes, we'll be there, bidding farewell to this world."
