Chapter 4

  • Emily’s POV
  • I was woken up by a strong smell of vomit that stung my nose.
  • In a daze, I found myself lying on the leather seat of Jasper's Ferrari.
  • Jasper saw me moving in the back seat and casually said, "Thank God! You're finally awake. I gave you a pill with a short-term sedative to help you sleep."
  • "Miss Emily, we're almost at the hospital now. I'm sorry you won't die today,” he added. “You'll have to wait a while."
  • My head was still too heavy to lift.
  • "Well... I have some things to take care of... It will indeed take a few days..."
  • "But, in a few days...” I continued, “I will still die on the Cross-Sea Bridge, and the undertaker will have to clean up my body. Don't try to steal it from me."
  • Jasper glanced at me with his peach blossom eyes, not looking like he was staring at a dying and disheveled girl.
  • Instead, there was a hint of liveliness and teasing in his gaze and voice.
  • "Before you die, can you help me pay for the car wash?"
  • I weakly waved my hand.
  • "Sorry, I have no money left. The money I gave to the hitman agency is all my savings..."
  • "But,” I went on, “you can go to the Miller family in the East District after I die and ask my mother for the money. This amount is nothing to her."
  • His hand on the steering wheel stiffened for a moment, then quickly regained composure and elegance.
  • He just chuckled with his magnetic voice.
  • "Let's forget about it. I don't want to deal with these rich people. They have too many rules, which I don't like."
  • He then changed the topic. "By the way, Miss Emily, I remember where I've seen you before. I remember five years ago when I was recording a street performance for a variety show, you were in the front row watching me."
  • "After all these years, you're still so beautiful,” he complimented.
  • But I had just vomited, and I was covered in dirt, with snot and tears all over my face. I really didn't know what he was thinking, using the word "beautiful" to describe me.
  • But he actually remembered me, and I couldn't help but think that maybe singers have good memories.
  • Although he had been chatting with me all along, the car was still speeding ahead.
  • Soon, we arrived at the hospital.
  • As soon as he opened the door, the emergency doctors and nurses appeared with a stretcher.
  • I struggled to get up, but my body was too weak.
  • Without hesitation, Jasper bent down and reached out to lift me up.
  • "No need... I'm very dirty..."
  • I was about to refuse him, but he just ignored me and gently pulled me into his arms.
  • Just as he was about to put me on the stretcher, a strong force suddenly appeared behind him and pushed him hard.
  • Luckily, Jasper was strong enough to hold me securely in his arms.
  • "Get out of the way! I have a seriously injured patient here. Give us the stretcher first!"
  • A familiar voice sounded in my ears, making my heart skip a beat.
  • Alex was holding Holly, who looked pitiful as she leaned on his shoulder with tears streaming down her face.
  • Without waiting for the doctor to react, he had already placed Holly on the stretcher and then knelt down on one knee.
  • "Baby, it's all my fault for letting you get hurt."
  • Then he turned to the doctor and nurses and shouted.
  • "Quick! Call your best orthopedic surgeon for a consultation. This is the heiress of the Miller family. If there are any complications due to delayed treatment, get ready to receive a lawyer's letter."
  • He was like a fool.
  • The doctor just looked at him displeased, pointing at me seriously.
  • "Sir, please don't waste time. We have more important patients to treat!"
  • Following the doctor's gaze, Alex and Holly, this sweet couple, finally noticed me on the verge of death.
  • He was only surprised for a moment before he proudly lifted his chin, disdainfully looking me up and down.
  • "Emily, you are really shameless. You stooped to this level just to delay Holly's treatment in the hospital."
  • "To gain my sympathy, you actually made yourself look like this,” he continued to accuse. “Do you think I will pity you? I just find it more disgusting."
  • He then looked at Jasper with a contemptuous gaze and spoke with a tone that was full of disdain.
  • "You even found a gigolo to act with you."
  • Holly, sitting on the stretcher, widened her eyes when she saw Jasper.
  • Because I used to really like J.D., she also told Mom that she liked him and took away all my records.
  • That delicate face was instantly filled with jealousy and malice, as if silently saying to me, ‘How did you, a bitch, seduce JD? Do you even deserve it?’
  • But when she saw Jasper carrying me towards her, she quickly put on a sympathetic face.
  • Blinking at Jasper, she pretended to be elegant and gentle.
  • "Mr. J.D., I'm sorry. My sister does have a habit of lying and pretending to be pitiful."
  • Sweetly, she further said, "My sister has caused you trouble. I hope you don't..."
  • Before she could finish her sentence, Jasper grabbed her wrist.
  • His face, like a figure from an ancient Greek oil painting, suddenly leaned in. Holly's face instantly flushed, her expression carrying a touch of shyness.
  • Before she could react, he pulled her back on the ground.
  • Holly stumbled a few steps.
  • He then gently put me on the stretcher and raised an eyebrow at me.
  • "Is the girl who used the stretcher as a stage your sister?"
  • Then, as if Holly wasn’t there, he said, "Her acting skills are terrible, and she's not very smart. She doesn't seem anything like you."
