Chapter 1
- Emily’s POV
- I, the eldest daughter of the Miller family, currently have a total of zero dollars in my bank account.
- I used half of my last savings to pay for the final round of chemotherapy for lung cancer.
- The other half, I reserved a full set of "beautifully ascend to heaven" services from a hitman agency to ensure that I die in a graceful and elegant manner.
- Three hours later, I dragged my weak body and lay quietly in the car designated by the hitman agency, waiting quietly for the large truck to hit me in the bustling area, in hopes of making it to the headlines.
- But suddenly, I received a call from an unknown number.
- "Miss Emily, I'm sorry, but your order for today needs to be canceled."
- "I have something more urgent that requires my service as a hitman,” the man explained. “I hope you can wait a little longer."
- Are you kidding me?!
- How could someone stop me even when I was trying to die?
- "Hello, Miss Emily?” The man on the other end had a magnetic and lazy voice.
- "If you are willing to reschedule the ceremony for tomorrow, I will compensate you to your satisfaction."
- Three months ago, I would have been pleasantly surprised.
- After all, I was often so poor that I couldn't even afford a cupcake.
- So having someone actually wanting to pay me would’ve tempted me.
- But now, no one could disturb my death!
- "Compensate my ass? Who do you think you are looking down on?"
- "I must die today, immediately. Send someone over right away."
- "Otherwise, I will report this organization to the police,” I threatened, “and you won't be able to continue being a hitman.”
- "Then,” I added, “I will drive to your doorstep and turn your house into a haunted house, making it unsellable for the rest of your life!"
- "If you don't let me die peacefully, you won't have a peaceful life either!" I yelled at him for good measure.
- Before he could say anything to reject me, I hung up the phone directly and turned off my phone.
- It's ridiculous, almost dying and still being forced to make arrangements by others. How unlucky.
- I might really be born unlucky.
- After all, I had been called an unlucky person for almost ten years.
- I looked at the constantly moving traffic beside me, feeling a bit dazed for a moment.
- The day my father died, I was sitting in the car looking out the window just like this.
- It was my twelfth birthday.
- My mother was a noble lady from a wealthy family, and my father married into her family.
- She always forced me to be elegant and well-behaved and demanded that my father be an obedient tool.
- But only on my birthday did my father agree to my wish, breaking Mom’s rule for the first time.
- It was my first time feeling surprised and excited.
- However, on the way to the amusement park, a truck driven by a drunk driver came rushing over, shattering the only joy in my life.
- My father held me tightly in his arms. I was not hurt, but he left me forever.
- But my dad would never know that from that day on, I also “died.”
- The whole world blamed me for being naive and greedy. My mother roared, questioning why I didn't die. My brother pushed me into the pool, saying my sins couldn't be washed away.
- Three months later, Dad's good friend, Uncle Sam, also died unexpectedly, leaving his child an orphan.
- Mom brought her directly home and adopted her.
- Holly came to our house and became the Miss of the Miller family.
- She was seen by everyone in the house as a lucky star and a little angel.
- She had everything I couldn't have, and she took away everything that belonged to me.
- Mom's love, brother's indulgence, my snacks, toys, clothes, and even my room.
- For the past ten years, I have been forced to live in the airtight attic.
- I was regularly made to stand in the corner of the wall to repent for my sins, and I was only able to eat their leftovers and wear clothes that Holly didn't want.
- The servants in the house also turned a blind eye to me, and everyone's emotions towards me were either disgust, disdain, or indifference.
- Except for my admirer, Alex.
- He pursued me for many years, praised my beauty, understood my feelings, and promised to love me forever.
- So, I made up my mind, believed in his promise, and accepted his confession.
- We had a sweet time together, and he was the only light in my dark life.
- Then, on our third anniversary, which was four months ago, I brought him home, wanting to tell my mom that I also deserved to be loved.
- But after dinner that day, I couldn't find him.
- It wasn't until I passed by Holly's room that I saw Alex again. He and Holly were naked, bodies tightly pressed together.
- The intense impact and moans shattered my last hope.
- Alex saw me standing at the door with a pale face. He was about to stop and explain, but Holly grabbed his face and seductively kissed him.
- "Alex, you said you fell in love with me. Don't stop. Keep going and show me."
- "Of course, of course. I was captivated by you at first sight. I regret wasting so many years before meeting you..."
- Their voices gradually became blurred.
- I only felt darkness in front of me and a deadly pain in my chest, leaving me unable to breathe.
- The next moment, bright red blood sprayed from my mouth, and I collapsed on the ground.
- I called out for help to my mother, who rushed over at the sound, but she threw me out of the house, saying I had dirtied my sister's floor.
- It was a passing homeless man who took pity on me and brought me to the hospital.
- That day, I was diagnosed with lung cancer.
- Terminal.
- When I heard the news, I laughed with relief instead of feeling sad.
- Death was probably a release given to me by God.
- I could finally escape from my mother’s and brother's accusations, get away from my sister's constant bickering, and leave behind my ex-boyfriend's infidelity.
- "Beep, beep!"
- The sudden loud honking outside the car window brought me back from my thoughts to reality.
- I opened my phone again and checked the time.
- Eleven twenty-eight.
- Only one hour left until the time of my father's fatal car accident.
