Chapter 2

  • Emily’s POV
  • This time, I must atone for my sins, and every minute and every second counted!
  • But the hitman agency still didn’t show up. It seemed like they were going to stand me up.
  • Luckily, I was prepared for their unreliability and had Plan B ready.
  • I opened the camera on my phone to take a video and took out a whole bottle of sleeping pills. Then, I popped the pills one by one into my mouth and sent the video to the hitman agency's contact person.
  • "I must die on the Cross-Sea Bridge at 12:08. You better collect my body according to the service standard. Otherwise, the police will find you according to my will."
  • I must have someone dress up my body beautifully.
  • Dad loved me the most. He always used to say that I was his most beautiful little princess.
  • So, I had to look my most beautiful if I die.
  • It was just a pity for my little dog—Cook.
  • This poor little dog was adopted by Alex and me, but after he fell in love with Holly, he hadn't even looked at it.
  • The little guy was now lying alone in the small apartment I rented, with a month's worth of food and water prepared for him.
  • I sent a message to Alex early on to have him pick up the dog.
  • But even then, the message interface still showed "read but not replied."
  • It seemed he was determined. Even if I died, he didn’t want to have any connection with me.
  • Whether he loved me or not didn’t matter anymore.
  • But he had an obligation to continue taking care of Cook.
  • I had to open the family's WhatsApp group.
  • I had already blocked this group, but today I opened it again and saw countless joyful photos.
  • All of them were beautiful photos of Holly taken by Alex.
  • I was stunned for a moment, looked through the chat records for a while, and finally understood the situation.
  • Today was the celebration banquet for Holly's admission to a prestigious school, and Mom had booked the most luxurious hotel in the country for it.
  • All the friends and dignitaries in the circle were invited.
  • Everyone in the group was praising how radiant and outstanding Holly was.
  • She was happily thanking Mom and brother and sweetly repeating "I love you" to Alex.
  • It was so lively. They probably had already forgotten about my existence in this group.
  • I suppressed the bitter feeling in my heart and emotionlessly tapped on the phone screen.
  • [Emily: Sorry to disturb your happy moment as a family.]
  • [Emily: Alex, I know you've blocked me, so I can only reach you through this group.]
  • [Emily: I'm going to die today. Cook can't be alone in the apartment. He's also a dog you adopted, so you have an obligation to take care of him.]
  • The group fell silent instantly.
  • After a moment, familiar curses began to appear.
  • [Holly's Sweet Mommy: You unlucky bastard, you're such a killjoy. You just can't stand to see your sister happy!]
  • [Holly's Sweet Mommy: It’s Holly's graduation party, the most important family event, and you're here chatting nonsense?]
  • Mom still hated me so much.
  • Then my brother's message popped up.
  • [Ethan Miller: Emily, I warn you. If you want to die, then die far away. Don't try to ruin Holly's party.]
  • [Ethan Miller: Otherwise, I won't acknowledge you as my sister anymore.]
  • It was really funny, as if he would acknowledge me as his sister if I didn't ruin it.
  • How many years had it been since he treated me like a sister?
  • I didn't want to argue with them anymore, so I directly tagged Alex.
  • [Emily: @A&H love Cook was the one you brought back for me to raise. You have to take care of him.]
  • [Emily: Otherwise, don't blame me for calling the cops now. You don't want the police knocking on your door, do you?]
  • He reluctantly replied this time.
  • [A&H love: Emily, we broke up a long time ago. The dog you raised has nothing to do with me.]
  • [A&H love: I don't want anything to do with you. This is how much my loyalty to Holly is.]
  • The traitor dared to insult the word "loyalty."
  • [Emily: I don't want to waste time with you. Go pick up Cook now, or I'll call the cops. Location is at the banquet hall.]
  • Realizing that I was going to ruin her party, my usually silent good sister finally spoke up.
  • [Holly: Emily, don't be angry. I know you're just upset about not being able to attend the party.]
  • [Holly: Mom and brother actually really wanted you to come. It's just that you're not feeling well. We're afraid you'll get tired.]
  • [Holly: All the gifts I received today can be given to you as an apology. Please don't be mad, okay?]
  • [Holly: Emily, Alex and I are willing to apologize to you. Please don't talk about wanting to die anymore. It's all my fault for making you sad. If you die, I will feel guilty for the rest of my life! T-T]
  • Her mature and generous words touched everyone's hearts.
  • [Holly's Sweet Mommy: Ignore her. If she wants to die, let her die!]
  • [Ethan Miller: Dare to call the cops and try. I won't let you off the hook.]
  • The effects of the sleeping pills started to show. My vision blurred for a moment, and my stomach began to ache.
  • I didn't have time to care about her fake words, so I forced myself to stay awake and sent one last message.
  • [Emily: Please take good care of Cook. I beg you. I will thank you in heaven, my kind family.]
  • Having said what needed to be said, I slowly started the car and headed towards the bridge across the sea.
  • My head was spinning uncontrollably, and the burning sensation in my stomach made it hard for me to breathe normally.
  • My car was swaying back and forth, and I was honked and cursed at by many people along the way, but I still insisted on not stopping.
  • At this moment, the car stereo automatically connected to a call.
  • I thought it was the hitman organization, but it turned out to be that man again.
  • There was a hint of anxiety in his tone.
  • "Sorry, my phone ran out of battery and shut down just now. I just received your message."
  • "Miss Emily, I'm on my way to you,” he went on. “Please calm down. Can we discuss this again?"
  • His voice was magnetic, especially coming from the car stereo. It gave me a strange sense of familiarity.
  • "Are you... Jasper D?"
  • A top rock star who inexplicably withdrew from the scene.
  • He fell silent, and only the roar of the wind as the car sped on echoed in the phone.
  • I continued on my own.
  • "I used to really like you. I was your die-hard fan. What a coincidence."
  • "To be able to call your idol when you're about to die,” I added, “not bad."
  • He probably didn't expect that a foolish girl who was going to die would even recognize him.
  • "Yeah, it's me. Now, quietly park your car on the side of the road and wait for me. I'll give you an autograph."
  • I was about to speak, but the channel was taken over by the alert tone of another call.
  • The caller was my mother, who hadn't called me in years.
