• I give her an appreciative smile as she walks in with Madilyn snuggled into her neck. It’s only as she gets closer to me that I realize that she’s been crying and Madilyn is in even worse shape. It’s obvious that she’s been riding the same roller coaster as Cole.
• “I’m sorry Cole. It looks like I need to change my plans.”
• I state apologetically as I sit up in the bed. I place my hand on Madilyn’s head brushing her hair out of her face.
