- Dinner had been simple but delicious, the kind of comfort Seraphina had grown used to since coming here. Judy had a gift and everything that came out of the villa’s kitchen was perfect, warm, and grounding. But even with a full stomach, Seraphina couldn’t sleep.
- The garden lights glowed along the stone path, and the air smelled faintly of leaves and rain. Seraphina slipped out the back door barefoot, a sweater over her night dress, her hair loose on her shoulders. She had started coming here whenever her head felt crowded it was one of the few places where she could let her mind slow down.
