Chapter 6 Heartbreak

  • After the wedding ceremony ended, Hyacinth and Ares were sent to his apartment to have some rest and then prepare for their honeymoon, which was arranged by Ares's mother. In the whole family, she was the only one who seemed to care about her feelings. Meanwhile, her own mother didn't come to see her off because her legs were sore from standing throughout her wedding ceremony. What an irony!
  • After half an hour of driving, they both reached Ares's apartment, which was located in a secluded part of the city.
  • Ares began to walk away as soon as they stepped inside his lavish living room, while Hyacinth struggled to walk in her heavy wedding dress. She didn't even get an opportunity to change her dress, and there was no one to help her. Hyacinth looked at his retiring back, which was about to step on the staircase.
  • "Ares." She called his name loudly, making him stop before turning around to look at her. His expression hardened as he raised an eyebrow at her, waiting for her to continue without saying anything.
  • "Can we talk?" Hyacinth asked timidly while biting her lips. She didn't know how he would react, but she needed to talk to him.
  • "You really have something left to say?" His voice was filled with sarcasm as he looked at her. Hyacinth gripped her wedding dress tightly while looking at him helplessly.
  • "I just wanted to..." She tried to explain while trying hard to find the right words to deliver so that he wouldn't get angry at her.
  • "What?" He cut her off with a blank stare, his tone raising slightly. His posture turned rigid, as if he didn't want to stay in the same room as her. He was clearly irritated with her, which made Hyacinth extremely sad.
  • "Can you not yell at me?" She bit her lips before requesting him quietly. She got scared easily and really hated it when someone yelled at her. Ares curled his lips but said nothing. Instead, he turned around before beginning to walk away once again. Hyacinth 's eyes widened in shock as she tried to follow him, but her heavy dress made it really hard for her.
  • "Wait, please listen to me. I really want to talk to you, Ares." She begged him from behind, her voice filled with panic and helplessness.
  • "Speak." He gritted out while facing her again. His cold gray eyes looked at her without a single bit of emotion. Hyacinth tried not to think much about it and decided to try her luck. She had been meaning to talk to him about this matter and really hoped he could give her a chance. She took a deep breath before finally speaking.
  • "Can we give this marriage a chance? I mean, we are married, so can you?" She couldn't finish her sentence as Ares cut her off harshly with a glare.
  • "What? Have you lost your mind? Or are you suffering from partial memory loss? We already signed the prenup contract, Hyacinth ." He seethed angrily at her, crushing her hope before she could even lay them in front of him. Hyacinth swallowed hard. She knew it was her chance to make him understand. He might be blind with his anger and hatred, but once he knew her heart, he would definitely accept her. Hyacinth refused to give up.
  • "I know, but still, can you reconsider your decision? I promise I will be a good wife to you and will love you dearly forever, Ares. Just give me a chance," she promised while trying to convince him. However, he looked really shocked after hearing her confession. Once he recovered from his shock, his expression turned cold once again.
  • "Love me? Did I ask for your love?" He spat indifferently, breaking her heart.
  • "Can you not talk to me like that? I'm your wife, Ares." Hyacinth requested, as she was getting really upset with his indifferent behavior. She couldn't take it further.
  • "I think you really have some problems with your brain, Hyacinth . You are not my wife. You will never be my wife. You are just a substitute for your sister until she shows up. Once she's back, I want nothing to do with you. So keep your love to yourself and stop being delusional because I will never accept you, let alone love you." He declared it loudly and clearly while his eyes were shooting daggers at her. For a moment, Hyacinth was taken aback by the amount of hatred and indifference in his eyes. Her heart dropped to the pit of her stomach as she stared at him. She didn't even realize it when her turquoise eyes swam with uncontrollable tears.
  • "Why are you doing this to me? What's my fault in all this? You are treating me as if I asked Hazel to run away." Her voice cracked as she asked him. She blinked away the hot tears to clear her vision.
  • "You don't know what's your fault? You shouldn't have agreed to the marriage in the first place. It's all because of you that my reputation is strained. Tell me, What did you gain out of this marriage?" Ares was totally blinded by his rage as he threw the accusations at her. There was no sign of remorse in his time, making her heart shatter into pieces.
  • "I agreed because I love you, Ares. Why can't you see that?" Hyacinth insisted helplessly. She was feeling really pathetic, confessing her love to the heartless man like that. Her words made Ares chuckle. He didn't believe her at all.
  • "I must say, Hyacinth . You are the perfect daughter of your father. He was cunning and pretentious, just like him. Both of you would stoop low just to achieve your goals." He said this, his eyes flashing with hatred.
  • You are misunderstanding me, Ares. I'm not like that." Hyacinth tried her best to explain, but he just raised his palm at her, silencing her completely.
  • "I don't want to hear a single word from you. Just the mere sight of you is making me sick, Hyacinth ." He snarled at her, making her almost drop to her knees. Hyacinth couldn't control the sobs escaping her lips, yet her cries and heartaches had no effect on him. They both stared at each other, one with anger and hatred and the other with sadness and vulnerability.
  • "Let me give you some clear instructions if you want to live under my roof." Ares cleared his throat before speaking again.
  • "First, don't you dare enter my bedroom and study. Don't poke your nose in my business. Don't expect anything from me, and stay out of my sight." He ordered her while taking off his suit from his body.
  • "Monica has prepared your room. You will stay there as long as you are here." He added, folding the tux jacket on his arm. Hyacinth didn't say anything as she stood there, silently listening to his every command.
  • "The most important thing is: don't you dare to do anything to ruin my reputation or bring disgrace to my family. In front of the world, pretend to be the perfect wife, and I will do the same by being a perfect husband. But once we are in private, I want nothing to do with you. You are already aware of your roles. So make sure to do your role perfectly, because that's the reason why your father has sent you here." He finished explaining his demands while his eyes bored a hole in hers.
  • "Understand?" He questioned her loudly when Hyacinth didn't respond to him. She exhaled deeply while nodding her head.
  • "Clearly. Don't worry, I will not cause you any trouble." Hyacinth gritted out, wiping her tears with the back of her palm.
  • "How could I not worry when I have to live under the same roof as someone like you?" He responded with sarcasm before walking away coldly.
