- My left shoulder was on fire, but the blood on my hands wasn't mine.
- I leaned heavily against the damp concrete wall of the subterranean junction, gasping for air as my lungs burned with every shallow breath. At my feet lay the massive, motionless gray body of Brutus, Vance’s chief beta enforcer. His throat was opened wide, thick crimson pooling over the cracked concrete floor, his yellow eyes wide and lifeless in the dim emergency light.
