Chapter 19
- Rhea's POV
- Vance’s jaw twitched, but he remained silent, staring down at his empty plate.
- I sat beside Jaxon, my spine rigid, forcing myself to chew small bites of venison that tasted like dry paper in my throat. My street-honed instincts, the paranoid, hyper-vigilant survival traits I had cultivated over years of hiding in the gutters, were screaming at me. Everything felt wrong. The air was too still. The servants moved too quickly, their eyes darting to the floor whenever they passed behind Vance’s chair.
