- We maintained a punishing pace off the main trail, traversing the difficult, broken terrain of the western ridge. The aggressive intrusion of Darius’s emotions persisted, a constant, low-frequency ache in the core of my mind that threatened to unravel my concentration. I knew we could not continue indefinitely with the mate bond acting as a hunting signal. We had to find the source of the intrusion and neutralise it.
- “He is not searching aimlessly,” I stated, pushing through a thicket of thorns, my voice tight. “His desperation has a focus. He is in the valley below the mountain, likely seeking shelter and information simultaneously.”
