Chapter 3
- Seated calmly on a couch, Damien had a dangerous aura around him, making his subjects shiver in fear. He had a cigarette tightly wrapped around his fingers, his dark orbs clouded with a thousand emotions. “Where’s she?” His cold and detached voice rang out as he turned to one of his subjects, “She's on her way, Alpha.” The subject replied, bowing slightly to show his respect.
- Moments later, I walked in, dressed in an oversized clothing. Earlier, the guard threw a black dress at me, preserving my dignity as a woman. I raised my head slightly, my hair clinging to my face, “Alpha Damien” I whispered as I bowed my head, not wanting to stir up trouble because I was in his territory. Raising my head back, I noticed a beauty sitting beside him, her raven black hair flowing down her waist. Dressed in a white gown, she looked pure and innocent, making all men want to have her. Sapphire was a rare beauty, her red lips plastered with a smile as she gazed at me. “Is that your mate?” She asked, turning to Damien who had a hardened leer on his face.
- The way Damien looked at her made my heart twist in pain. “She must be the woman he loves” I thought, my eyes fixed on sapphire who sat elegantly beside him. “You shouldn't have treated her this way.” she whispered softly, her voice tugging my heartstrings. I narrowed my eyes, Confused by her statement. Is she worried about me?
- “Sapphire..” Damien called out as he stared at her, “This girl” he said as he pointed at me, “She's not just my mate, but one sent to destroy me. How could they have known the scent that drives me insane!”
- Sapphire's calm face cracked a little, her fists clenched by her sides, “They have the same scent?” She asked, her voice raising slightly, but immediately, she replaced her frown with a smile, concealing her emotions, “That could just be a mere coincidence. Even if they have the same scent…I don't think she's the one.”
- Damien nodded in approval, “Yes. Come to think of it, she's an Omega. The moon goddess would never give me a mate this week. Just look at how fragile and frail she looks.” He scowled in disgust. Pained, I pressed my lips in a thin line. This time, I would try to preserve my strength. Suddenly, Sapphire's cheery voice was heard again, “So you're saying she was sent by someone to lure you? That's why you're keeping her in the dungeon?”
- “Yes. I'll torture her till she spills the truth” His voice was stern and unyielding, instilling fear in me.With everything I've been through, there's still more torture? Terrified, I fell to my knees, “Alpha! Please believe me. I was sent by no one.”
- The guard next to me raised his hand slightly, but Sapphire glared at him, her voice cold and frosty, “Stop.”
- “Young girl, telling the truth would only favor you. Tell me, who sent you?” She said softly as she approached me, bending down to my level. My eyes stinged with tears, her beauty overshadowing me completely. Seeing her this closely, I realized I wasn't good enough for the Alpha, my mate. Even if the moon goddess chose me, I would rather reject him. Rejecting him would bring me less pain, and I would be saved from all these humiliation. “Alpha, I'll reject…” I wasn't allowed to finish my statement when a young man walked in hurriedly, a frown on his handsome face. “Alpha, I'm afraid there's a problem”
- Damien narrowed his eyes, “Speak” he commanded, his body relaxed as he stared at the young man. Silas sighed, “The rogue king, he's at it again. He's spreading rumors around the city, claiming that you being the Alpha is a mistake.”
- “What nonsense!” Damien snapped, his body trembling from anger. “He must be doing this to try to win people to his side. My brother is quite smart” he grinned.
- Brother? I stared at him, confused by his words. Why would his brother try to spoil his name? Not daring to interrupt their conversation, I remained on my knees. Sapphire turned to Silas, Damien's beta. “What's he up to this time!”
- “Damien, don't let this bother you. Since he's spreading a rumor, we can attack the rumor with a rumor. Tell them you've found your mate.” She said in one breath, her eyes brimming with life.
- “Mate?” my wolf whispered, wondering what was happening. “A mate they've not acknowledged?”
- Silas frowned, “Alpha, you've found your mate?” He asked, his voice laced with excitement. “This is good. An Alpha with a mate would be more respected. Your brother, the rogue king wouldn't see this coming.”
- “Where's your mate?”
- “I really need to see her”
- Damien grinned, turning to Sapphire, “Why did you bring that idea? You mean I should introduce my weak mate to the whole pack? A girl I'm still trying to investigate?” His voice was chilly, making Sapphire stiffen her back. “Damien” she whispered softly as she approached him, her arms placed on his hands.” Even if you're still investigating her, we just need her for a show. You don't have to claim her or mark her yet.”
- Surprised, I stared a sapphire and shook my head. For her to call the Alpha Damien, they must be really close. The fact that she brought that ridiculous idea made my blood boil. However, I remained unmoved.
- Silas was confused, taking turns to leer at the Alpha and Sapphire. “And where's this girl?”
- Sapphire smiled,”There she is.” she said as she pointed at me. Sapphire was complex and unsettling. One moment she cares, and the other time she says something upsetting.
- Silas laughed out loud as he stared at me, his gaze filled with disbelief. Tears threatened to spill from my eyes as his laughter echoed in my ears. Yes. My state was so pitiful, it would make anyone laugh. My head was lowered, but my body was slightly exposed. Anyone would see I wasn't in a good shape. Even a pauper wouldn't want someone like me. “Alpha, she's really your mate?” I heard Silas's voice, somewhat trembling like it was filled with pain. Pain?
- “Why would you treat your mate this way?” He asked again and I raised my head to look at him, my eyes whirling with a thousand emotions.
