Chapter 7 Dealing With the Scheming Girl

  • “You want to leave the Feng Family?”
  • A man’s deep, husky voice echoed nearby, binding her like a chain. Shocked out of her wits, Lan Muwei fled subconsciously.
  • His coarse, fiery breath was seemingly beside her ears, so much so that she could feel the faint warmth and ticklish sensation.
  • Feng Shihan’s slender fingers suddenly pinched her chin, raising her head forcefully. “Su Wan, are you still the Su Wan I know?”
  • A wave of terror and shock almost stifled her.
  • Lan Muwei stammered, “W-why are you asking this now? I’m… of course, Su Wan. Who else can I be?”
  • Seriously?
  • Could Feng Shihan have discovered that she wasn’t the original Su Wan?
  • Feng Shihan sized her up from head to toe. The impact her current beautiful features had on him wasn’t small. The clingy Su Wan of the past was always wearing such thick makeup—sometimes even gothic colors—that one could hardly see her face. It was incomparably ugly.
  • Besides, that Su Wan knew nothing about fashion and design. All she did was play the role of a love-smitten fool who wasn’t good for anything.
  • She never possessed the gift of the gab.
  • Lan Muwei took a deep breath, doing her utmost to suppress her fear of being discovered. “Feng Shihan, what do you want to say really?”
  • “How did you know Eric’s preferences and habits?” His gaze was scorching.
  • “This… Feng Shihan, my mother was a designer as you know. She’s a big fan of Eric’s and I’ve heard her mentioning such things frequently. I can even recite them by heart at this point.”
  • She made a sharp turn in hopes of finding a way to fool him, maintaining eye contact all the while.
  • This reason should be fine right?
  • Feng Shihan remained silent as he recalled the background information he had investigated about Su Wan. Her mother was indeed a designer who had passed away for many years.
  • Almost as though she had seen a ghost, Lan Muwei moved away from him as soon as he released his grip. She pretended to look at the nearby scenery, when in fact, she was edging away.
  • She couldn’t stay in place any longer!
  • Divorce! She had to file a divorce!
  • ——
  • “President Feng, Mr. Chen is here.”
  • Lin Yayu returned with a man in his forties. After exchanging greetings, Feng Shihan explained his intentions, “Mr. Chen, this is the evening gown my subordinate asked Eric to make. Please check and see if it’s his work.”
  • “This evening gown?” Mr. Chen seemed a bit surprised, but seemingly in order to avoid making a mistake, he weighed the dress in his hand and observed the stitches and craftsmanship in detail.
  • Moments later, his expression didn’t look that good. Lin Yayu moved closer and asked anxiously, “This is Eric’s work, right? I’m certain I placed the order with his assistant.”
  • Mr. Chen shook his head regretfully. “This isn’t Eric’s work. He won’t ever use this kind of stitch since he has his own unique needlework that other designers cannot imitate. That’s his trademark. Just from the stitches, I can tell that this isn’t Eric’s work.”
  • Lin Yayu refused to believe it. She looked at the gown repeatedly, then said while pulling Mr. Chen back, “Impossible! What’s this about needlework? Aren’t all clothes made the same? I’ve never even heard of a special stitching method.”
  • Mr. Chen looked at her with disdainful eyes. How could a designer not know about Eric’s needlework?
  • “That only goes to show your shortsightedness and lack of knowledge as a designer. That doesn’t mean other people can’t see through it.” Mr. Chen was no longer polite since he felt insulted.
  • Lin Yayu stole a panicked glance at Feng Shihan. Her lips trembled, not knowing how to explain things.
  • She had personally bought this evening gown, spending millions in the process. How could it be worth that much money if it wasn’t made by Eric?
  • There was no meaning at all if it wasn’t Eric’s work.
  • Additionally, she recalled her wager from just now—not only had she failed to drive Su Wan out of the Feng Family, but she might be the one to leave the family and industry altogether...
  • Mr. Chen waved his hand and bid farewell to Feng Shihan.
  • Feng Shihan glanced at the silent Lan Muwei with a gloomy, enigmatic expression.
  • Mr. Chen was someone who had been in contact with Eric before, yet he could only mention Eric’s needlework. Yet, she had managed to bring up Eric’s preferences, even the fact that he liked certain gems instead of small diamonds.
  • Lan Muwei started to sweat under his gaze, almost as though she had been targeted by a wild beast.
  • Could it be that her reason wasn’t enough to convince him?
  • Su Wan’s mother was a fairly outstanding designer who naturally liked Eric’s work.
  • But that wasn’t the reason she knew Eric.
  • In truth, Lan Muwei not only knew Eric, but their relationship wasn’t that simple either. She was already acquainted with the young Eric many years ago when she was just a student. They had learned design together, worked together, and found inspiration in one another...
  • Later on, Eric decided to go abroad. Before leaving, he invited her to go with him for further studies. Unfortunately, she was love-smitten back then—she declined his suggestion without the slightest hesitation and chose to stay in the country, helping Fu Chen’s company to get on track.
  • Eric had personally designed countless evening gowns for her, all of which were stored in her dressing room back in the Lan family. There were at least a hundred different designs made personally by Eric.
  • Who would’ve thought that this partner-in-learning would become a world-renowned designer? Now, countless people would flock over for the chance to have him design an evening gown for them, offering exorbitant sums of money.
  • Flustered, Lin Yayu glanced at Feng Shihan with an expression of self-blame. “S-Sorry… President Feng. I didn’t know it was fake, I clearly contacted Eric’s assistant, I’m sorry.”
  • “It’s useless to say all of that now. Contact the lawyer and the police, find that so-called assistant and seek compensation. Also, submit a letter of resignation. Our company doesn’t need a designer without sufficient knowledge.”
  • Lin Yayu’s countenance collapsed, her heart thumping hard. She knelt down without hesitation to seek forgiveness, but Feng Shihan didn’t even spare her a glance. He simply got into his car and drove off, leaving a trail of dust behind him.
  • Lin Yayu glared daggers at Lan Muwei. All of this started with wanting to frame her and force her to leave the Feng Family.
  • But things ended up with her being the unfortunate one. It was like picking up a stone and smashing her own foot.
  • No! she definitely couldn’t compromise so easily!
  • Lin Yayu forcefully calmed herself down. Her father was a senior figure who had worked for the Feng Family for many years. She had remained in the family since graduation, acting cautiously all the while and even taking time to take care of the old madam. The servants of the Feng family treated her like half a master, and even the old madam was quite fond of her.
  • If only this Su Wan hadn’t appeared out of nowhere...
  • Lin Yayu felt more hateful the more she thought about it. She definitely couldn’t admit defeat—she might yet be able to stay if she could find a product designed by Eric within three days.
  • At the thought of this, she knew she didn’t have time to remain here. She glared fiercely at Lan Muwei one last time before leaving the house in due haste.
  • She had forgotten that her original bet was to leave the fashion world altogether.
  • Lan Muwei shook her head lightly as she watched Lin Yayu’s receding figure. The latter was impetuous, hot-tempered, and short-sighted, someone destined to never become a top designer.
  • The Feng Family business was one of the top companies in Xiangjiang, primarily dealing in fashion development, design and sales. There were numerous industries below them, but fashion design was their mainstream business. Two of their brands had made it into the list of international brands at one point. Although they couldn’t compare to centuries-old companies like Dior, CHANEL, and Louis Vuitton, they had still amassed millions of fans during their twenty years in the scene.
  • The only other company that could go against the Feng in Xiangjiang was the Fu Corporation.
  • Fu Chen treated Feng Shihan like a thorn in his side, scheming against the latter whenever he had the chance. He had nurtured a large batch of talented designers and assembled numerous capable people from across the world in order to build up some major brands. All of this was to deal Feng Shihan a major blow in business.
  • Then there was Lan Zhixi—the girl had stolen Lan Muwei’s designs and then framed her, forcing the latter to leave the design world with hate.
  • Lan Zhixi, on the other hand, had risen to fame and joined Fu Chen’s company as head of design.
  • A play would only be interesting when acted in tandem.
  • What would happen if she were to join the Feng Corporation?
