Chapter 4 Lin Yayu Reaps What She Had Sown

  • Lan Muwei and Lin Yayu were supporting the old madam from either side as they entered the mourning hall behind Feng Shihan. The people standing on each side of the hall came out to greet the guests, but their expressions became awkward upon seeing people from the Feng Family.
  • Who in Xiangjiang didn’t know that the Fus and Fengs were enemies?
  • The Feng Family had actually come to attend the funeral of the Fu Family’s young madam. What’s more, the Old Madam and Feng Shihan were both present—how could this not astonish everyone?
  • Feng Shihan, in particular, was emitting such an aura of strength and grandeur that no one in the Fu Family dared to stop him.
  • The guests who had come to offer their condolences had long since discovered the Feng Family entourage. Feng Shihan quickly became the topic of everyone’s discussion. They recognized Grandma Feng and Lin Yayu as well; only that lady beside Feng Shihan was an unfamiliar face.
  • It would seem the rumors that Feng Shihan’s bad relationship with his wife Su Wan was true—there was indeed a rift in their marriage regardless of how it may seem to outsiders. Feng Shihan had brought this beautiful wife out into the public, but he didn’t give her any face at all. Her position seemed fairly shakey, to say the least.
  • It wouldn’t be surprising if the young madam of the Feng became another person later on.
  • Lan Muwei felt a chill in her heart. Her gaze bypassed the sea of unfamiliar faces and finally found Lan Zhixi’s insincere countenance.
  • Lan Zhixi’s eyes were red as she knelt beside the coffin, wailing inconsolably, “Sis, please stop sleeping. Please wake up, okay? Zhixi doesn’t want your heart, I only want you to be alive…”
  • Zhou Wanling reached out from behind, hugging her tear-stained daughter with moist eyes. “Zhixi, don’t be too sad… your sister is already gone. Her last wish is for you to live on well, don’t let the sorrow harm your body.:
  • As though she in shock, Lan Zhixi released Zhou Wanling’s hand and went on to hug a corner of the coffin. It looked like she would faint any second now.
  • All the guests felt pity, moved by the deep love between the Lan family sisters.
  • Grandma Feng patted her granddaughter-in-law’s hand, sighing, “This lass left so suddenly… a classic case of beautiful ladies suffering unhappy fates. Fortunately, her family treats her quite well, I hope she can rest in peace.”
  • Lan Muwei’s lips twitched into a mocking smile. Rest in peace? Having one’s chest cut open by the husband and sister, how could someone like that rest in peace?
  • “Grandma, don’t be said. Let’s bow to Miss Lan.” She didn’t address the deceased as Young Madam of the Fu. Even in death, Lan Muwei didn’t want to be associated with the Fu Family.
  • Lin Yayu’s eyes lit up pon hearing the word bow. She echoed the sentiment and immediately walked over behind Lan Muwei, staring fixedly at her back.
  • Perfect!
  • She was so excited that her face was slightly distorted.
  • Feng Shihan shot Lan Muwei a glance. Her performance today was unexpectedly quite good—he couldn’t help but feel surprised that she hadn’t stirred up any ridiculous commotion. It felt like there was something different about her.
  • Lin Yayu kept on staring at Lan Muwei’s back even after the ceremony, hoping to catch the moment her dress unravels.
  • That dress had been tampered with and wouldn’t last very long.
  • But alas, no.
  • Her expectations were never met.
  • After the bow, Lan Muwei stood straight and glanced over at Lin Yayu with a spurious smile.
  • The latter went pale.
  • Had she been discovered?!
  • Impossible! Even if that pig-brain had discovered the trick, she had kept an eye on her the entire way. Su Wan hadn’t taken the dress off since she put it on, so how did she repair the threads?
  • Lin Yayu’s head went blank from the shock of her failure and that smile Su Wan had cast at her. She seemingly tripped on something in her muddle-headed state, a slip of her tall heel bringing her entire body forward onto the floor.
  • The accident alarmed everyone in the mourning hall, attracting countless eyes.
  • Lin Yayu stumbled miserably, and what made it worse was that her black evening gown zip split open from behind.
  • The form-hugging gown produced a sudden ripping sound as it split all the way down from the middle. Shocked out of her wits, Lin Yayu frantically tried to cover up her exposed back, but everyone had witnessed this scene. Some of the men even started snapping photos with their cellphones.
  • “Don’t look… don’t take photos!”
  • Lin Yayu had no time to pay attention to the pain. She clambered up form the ground and rushed over to stop the people taking photos. However, she stepped on the hem of the gown and tripped miserably once more. The scene was so unbearably embarrassing that Lin Yayu wanted nothing more than to dig a hole and bury herself inside. Ultimately, she collapsed on the ground and began crying out loud.
  • Grandma Feng was so angry that she was trembling. She pointed the woman feigning death on the floor, saying, “What an embarrassment to the family, get up and scram!”
  • Lin Yayu climbed up in fright. “Old Madam, I really didn’t do that on purpose…” She stole a glance at Lan Muwei, then cried hysterically, “It’s her! She harmed me on purpose. You must give me justice for this…”
  • The sudden changed left Grandma Feng flabbergasted.
  • Feng Shihan growled, “What’s the meaning of this.
  • “Wan was the one who harmed me. I saw her take my clothes this morning, who would’ve thought she would tamper with it in order to humiliate me, shaming the Feng family in the process? Director Feng, Old Madam, she’s the one behind this…”
  • Lan Muwei was startled for a moment, then broke into a mocking laugh. “Yayu, are you retarded? There are security cameras in every corner of the Feng Villa. You came to me completely dressed this morning. How can I set you up when the clothes are on your body?
  • “Am I too bold or are you just stupid?” She sneered.
  • “You’re the one who set up this trap. Who else can it be? You’ve already figured it out, haven’t you? You did this on purpose.” Lin Yayu choked on her words. One could easily imagine how unbearable it was for her to undergo such an embarrassment. Unable to hold back her emotions, she was determined to drag Su Wan down with her.
  • The old madam said furiously, “Shut up! How dare you retort in such a situation. Aren’t you two best friends? Why would she set you up? We’ll know the truth once we go back and check the surveillance footage. Go back to the car this instant!”
  • Lin Yayu wanted to seek Feng Shihan’s help, but her shoulders trembled when she accidentally met his cold gaze. Her mouth opened halfway but she dared not say anything. In the end, she could only leave the mourning hall in dismay. Her receding figure looked especially dispirited and awkward.
  • One reaps what one sows.
  • Lan Muwei smiled coldly as she watched Lin Yayu walking away.
  • Suddenly, she felt an uncomfortable, piercing gaze upon her. Lan Muwei looked over subconsciously and found that Feng Shihan staring at her since god knows when.
  • His eyes were dark and lustrous, seemingly filled with boundless flickering stars.
  • Yet, it was also fairly incisive, almost as though it could see through her heart. She couldn’t help but feel uneasy.
  • Feng Shihan turned away and no longer paid her attention when Lan Manwu forced a flattering smile at him.
  • That was close! She had to remember that her current identity was Su Wan, a shameless slut who liked to pester the men she liked. She would surely be seen through if she couldn’t play the part.
  • Lin Yayu’s incident was soon forgotten. After all, a girl of ordinary status was only worth a couple of extra glances no matter how attractive she was.
  • Also, this was the Fu Family’s territory.
  • After the arrival of the Fu Family’s, the relatives from the Lan Family also showed up. Lan Zhengting stood before the crystal coffin, looking down at his daughter’s deceased countenance with a wooden expression.
  • Zhou Wanling had to console her daughter and mind her husband’s mood at the same time. Hence, her speech was fairly brief and formal.
  • At some point, Lan Muwei appeared around them and began observing the three with cold eyes.
  • Lan Zhengting didn’t express much sorrow regarding the sudden death of his daughter. Fu Chen’s explanation was that she had committed suicide by overdosing on sleeping pills, and that she had left a will saying she wished to give her heart to Lan Zhixi. Lan Zhengting didn’t doubt these words at all because he knew how much his daughters loved one another.
  • Muwei was his daughter from a previous marriage, and he married Zhou Wanling after his first wife’s passing. Muwei no longer loved him like before after that, often looking at him with a strange expression that gave him the goosebumps.
  • Now, she was dead.
  • Meanwhile, the other cute, gentle, and obedient daughter was to live on with a healthy heart.
  • One life for another, each of equal importance. Only he would know whether he was happy or sad.
  • “Mr. Lan,” Lan Zhengting heard someone calling his name just as he was out smoking in a corner of the compound. Looking back, he found a young, elegant lady he was unfamiliar with.
  • Puzzled, he asked, “You are…?”
  • “I’m Muwei’s friend,” She replied. “Mr. Lan, why did Muwei suddenly take her life for no good reason? Did the police perform an autopsy?”
  • Lan Zhenting broke into a frown. “What are you trying to say?”
  • Lan Muwei suppressed the hatred and sorrow in her heart. “Mr. Lan, don’t you think there’s something fishy about Muwei’s death?”
  • The man looked at her with an impatient frown. He had wanted to say something when a raspy voice arrived from behind him, “What’s fishy about it?”
