Chapter 3 Lan Muwei’s Funeral

  • Lan Muwei woke up from her nightmare.
  • The warm sunlight was pouring in through the windows, projecting specks of light on the brown silk. Glancing around at the tastefully decorated room, she felt startled.
  • This wasn’t a dream; she had really been reborn.
  • It was Lin Yayu at her door, trying to wake her up. Lan Muwu got up and took a shower to wash off all the sweat. Then she opened her closet in search of clothes to wear.
  • Inside, she found rows upon rows of revealing dresses, but not one that was suitable to wear out on the streets. It took her a long while to find a dress with shoulder straps, which she duly wore.
  • “Wan, these are the clothes the old madam asked me to deliver. Try them out.” Staring at Lan Muwei’s curvaceous figure, Lin Yayu passed her a white box with a fake smile.
  • The box contained an elegant, white dress with a stiff collar. The design was simple and conservative but presented a certain sense of grace.
  • Grandma Feng had made this arrangement probably because she understood Su Wan’s character. She had taken the trouble of sending a set of clothes out of fear that she would wear inappropriate attire to a funeral.
  • This came as a great help while she was wracking her brains over clothes.
  • Lin Yayu watched her change with a treacherous gleam in her eyes.
  • Lan Muwei’s fingers brushed over the smooth material as she received the clothes. It was easy to imagine that its contents, clad around a slim body, would be fairly elegant despite the simplicity. The button behind the long dress was in the form of a delicate lotus flower, its petals stacking up in a lifelike manner. The craftsmanship was clearly remarkable.
  • Below the button was a row of intricately crafted flower buds. Her hands came to an abrupt stop as she moved downward.
  • Lin Yayu’s expression was filled with anxiety, and her fists clenched tightly.
  • “Grandma sent these over?” Lan Muwei asked all of a sudden.
  • “Y-Yes.” Lin Yayu stole a glance at her. She was feeling guilty at heart, but she managed to force a smile. “What’s wrong? Is there a problem?”
  • Lan Muwei’s gaze landed on her. “It’s fine, please thank grandma for me.”
  • Lin Yayu heaved a sigh of relief. Her fist loosened, and she revealed a cold smile where Lan Muwei couldn’t see.
  • She had thought this dumb woman had figured something out!
  • The more intricate the clothing, the more fragile it was.
  • She had gone to great lengths to “take care” of this dress the entire night, loosening the threads all around the flower buds.
  • It looked fine for the time being, and it would still be fine after she had put it on.
  • But after wearing it for some time, and bowing down at the funeral, the buttons would fall off and the flower buds would unravel completely. The scene would be extremely erotic with this tight-fitting dress splitting open from behind.
  • That was to happen at a funeral.
  • To a woman who was already suffering from a bad name, this would be an unerasable blemish in her life.
  • After changing, Lan Muwei tied her hair up and put on some light makeup. When she came out of the dressing room, Lin Yayu couldn’t help but stare fixedly, hardly able to believe her eyes.
  • Su Wan was as pure as she was beautiful without the heavy makeup and revealing clothes. That graceful attire added a bit of charm to her elegant getup.
  • Lin Yayu blinked a couple of times. She took a while to calm her astonishment, but the jealousy in her eyes couldn’t be hidden. She had always known about Su Wan’s beauty as it was something she had been jealous of. It was also her who had advised the latter to apply thick makeup and wear revealing clothes.
  • All she did was leak false information that Feng Shihan liked alluring women, and that dumb woman, with her pig-brain, never suspected a single thing.
  • As she was turning to leave, Lin Yayu felt as though she was touched on the back. But she found nothing upon glancing back, so she merely walked out with a smirk.
  • Behind her, Lan Muwei quietly threw away two silver threads.
  • ——
  • Unexpectedly, the person to pick Lan Muwei up for the funeral was Feng Shihan!
  • His face was akin to a painting, his handsome countenance like frost. He stood there in a suit and leather shoes, emitting an aura of arrogance that would keep everyone away from him.
  • Lan Muwei immediately sensed a gaze full of murderous intent sweeping over her, but it turned into astonishment moments later.
  • She walked naturally toward him and sized up the tall, handsome man. Even though she didn’t have any deep feelings for Feng Shihan, she couldn’t help but sigh in admiration. This man was indeed outstanding.
  • No wonder the Fu Family hated him to the bones but couldn’t do anything to him.
  • Feng Shihan gazed vacantly at her for a while, before issuing a cold order. “Get on the car.”
  • The hatred and disgust in his eyes were the same as before.
  • Lan Muwei sighed in her heart. It would seem Feng Shihan was still angry about last night. It was an undeserved bout of rage that she was suffering, but that couldn’t be helped since she was Su Wan now.
  • Since Feng Shihan hated her so much, Lan Muwei decided not to provoke him. She obediently opened the rear-seat door, but a wrinkly elbow reached out to stop her. Then, Grandma Feng’s weathered but benevolent countenance appeared before her.
  • “Grandma… Feng!”
  • The old lady’s eyes narrowed into crescents. “Wan, you sit in the front.”
  • Having no other choice, Lan Muwei could only go around and open the front seat door. An austere chill rushed into her face, causing her to tremble from the cold and almost run away in fright.
  • In the end, Feng Shihan didn’t drive her out of the car. That was also because Grandma Feng was in the backseat. Despite his dissatisfaction, he couldn’t do anything on the spot.
  • She had heard before that Feng Shihan was filial, but she didn’t think it would be so true.
  • Lan Muwei found it incredulous. This cold, lofty man actually revered his stooping, white-haired grandma so much that he was willing to sacrifice his happiness and marry the joke of Xiangjiang City that was Su Wan.
  • Even though… it was just in name.
  • The journey was like traveling through an icehouse. Lan Muwei sat in great discomfort, speaking nothing as the atmosphere plunged into awkwardness. Feng Shihan maintained his chilling aura, not even sparing her a glance along the way, let alone hold a conversation.
  • Lan Muwei’s mourning hall was located in the Fu Family’s suburban villa. There were countless luxury cars parked outside of the compound and there was a couplet hanging from their doors. The atmosphere here was solemn, dismal, and sorrowful.
  • Lan Muwei’s heart trembled upon getting off the car—it felt as though there was a large stone on her chest. She fell forward, her breathing became labored and her vision, dark.
  • It was at this moment that a strong arm reached out to support her. Lan Muwei glanced over just in time to see Feng Shihan pulling back his hand. He left a reminder as he passed by her, “You’d best not play any tricks today!”
  • This was a reminder, but it was also a warning.
  • Lan Muwei shrunk back, but she quickly came to and recovered her calm.
  • Her fist gripped tightly on either side of her body. The moment she thought about it… how she would soon meet the illicit couple, Fu Chen and Lan Zhixi, her entire body would scream with resentment and hatred.
  • How could she not hate them?
  • She had known Fu Chen since she was eighteen. She had given up the opportunity to study abroad after graduation, and instead, helped him to earn great riches and honor. Who would’ve thought she would be imprisoned, tortured, and humiliated after marriage? And that sister she had loved so much had turned out to be a white lotus that was even more venomous than a snake. She must’ve been blind to have run into this adulterous couple.
  • They had opened up her chest and taken her heart. This was a death full of grievance, and yet they dared to hold a funeral for her!
  • She was already dead, so what kind of trick could they play? Lan Muwei really wanted to see what this Fu Chen and Lan Zhixi were up to.
