Chapter 7 How did you know she was not pretending?
- Joan glared at Peggy again while she remained silent.
- With a tight grasp of her palms, Peggy was radiating a chilly perspiration. Peggy used to put up with things for her mother, but now she didn't want the man in front of her to think the wrong thing.
- Robert spoke just as she was going to say anything.
- "Ms. Joan? In all the years I've been in bars, I can honestly say I've never seen a lady offer booze and dress so conservatively. After a little teasing, she flushes. Do you have a misunderstanding with her? Not that it matters, but you and William are going to tie the knot. This young lady really appeals to me. We might end up starting a family in the future.”
- The moment the voice dropped, William and Peggy both gave it a chilly glance in addition to Peggy's shocked expression.
- Robert looked at William thoughtfully after being taken aback.
- "Little girl, I will buy every bottle of wine you sell this evening."
- Peggy's eyebrows curled slightly. "Thank you. I will head to the warehouse now to deliver the rest of the wine to you.”
- Robert waved his hand, saying, "Be careful, or I'll be worried."
- Without any delay, Peggy pivoted and departed. Just as Robert reached over to take a sip from the wine on the table, he heard William ask icily.
- "Are you truly fond of her?"
- Robert almost choked on it, turned to stare at William in disbelief, then lifted his chin and gestured to Joan's spot.
- “William, it doesn't seem to matter if I like it or not. You are familiar with me. I've dated a lot of girls, but I've never dated a girl like this. Teasing is enjoyable.”
- "How can you be certain that she isn't acting chaste?"
- "No, William; you never used to judge a female. You cannot believe what your fiancée says. Even if this is her attempt to seduce me, I'm willing to accept the bait.”
- Robert continued talking as he saw his brother's expression progressively deteriorate. He most likely knew everything. How could he not be aware of women's thoughts after spending so much time among them?
- Joan had taken a seat at the side. She was uncomfortable just looking into Robert's eyes, but she was afraid he would see through her thoughts. All she could do was sit up straight and smile smugly.
- William's arm was gradually tightened by her as she said, "My parents and I will handle my sister's problem. Don't worry. Her past actions are well-known to many of us here. My sister and I have no grudges or grievances. How could we make up information to falsely accuse her?"
- William gently withdrew her arm, saying, "Ms. Joan, I don't enjoy it when people investigate my whereabouts. This is the first instance; there won't be a second chance.”
- Joan's face abruptly became pale; was this a warning to her?
- Robert next to him also said, "William, tonight is our brother's catch-up day; why don't you let the assistant send Ms. Joan to go back home?”
- William nodded and said, "Yeah," with a hint of emotion in his eyes.
- Joan persevered; obviously, they were hoping to get rid of her!
- Was hiding it really that difficult?
- No, that wench had no guts to tell it unless she wanted her and her mother to perish in this life!
- After Joan was led away by the assistant, Robert drew a sigh of relief and muttered to himself, "I'm not sure why, but I didn't like her when I first saw her. She resembles that little girl quite a bit. That little girl could be an adoptive daughter, but how? Yeah, it's just a cover-up for the cheating. Still, they both have a similar appearance. With her pale complexion and delicate features on her face, that little girl is far more attractive than Joan. William, are you certain that you wish to wed Joan?”
- William's eyes lowered; unsure what he was thinking, he abruptly dropped the wine glass and stood up: "I'm going to the bathroom."
- Here, Peggy made her way from the bright and bustling ballroom to the quiet and dark passageway.
- Abruptly, there was a potent aroma of wine. Peggy scowled, and a bearded uncle stumbled out of the bathroom.
- "The chick looks very petite; she even sells wine." The man came quickly, glancing at the work sign on Peggy's chest.
- He made a loud booze hiccup and began dishonestly touching Peggy's clothes, saying, "Come on, sell me wine; I'll pay for you. Or you can choose to kiss me; I'll purchase all your wine, okay?"
- The man displayed his enormous, disgustingly yellow teeth!
- With a violent expression on her face, Peggy clenched her teeth, took hold of the tray, and crushed it!
- "Wham!" With a sharp sound, the tray touched down.
- For a moment, the room seemed to go silent. When he reached out and touched his head, his palm was covered in blood.
- Peggy's pupils contracted slightly, and the man's face quickly became terrible and terrifying.
- “b*tch, don't you dare to hit me!”
- "I promise to let you go to jail if you don't sleep with me today."
