Chapter 4 I Really Want to Scratch Your Face
- When the operating room lights eventually turned off three hours later, Peggy's mother was pushed out from the inside. Peggy bounced back right away. She was dazed, as she felt the agony in her knees as soon as she got up.
- "The family members of the patient, please go to pay for the medication. After an emergency surgery, the patient is unable to eat. She must first obtain the nutritional solution.”
- Peggy ignored the pain and quickly agreed, "Okay, I'll go right away."
- When she returned to the ward with the medication, her mother had already awoken.
- With a smile, Peggy trotted over. Taking her mother's hand, she sat on the hospital bed. "Mom, you are awake. Are you feeling any discomfort? Are you hungry or not?" she said in a calm, gentle voice. “You're not supposed to eat any solid food since you just had a surgery done. Let me get your IV drip going.”
- Freya felt no emotion when she noticed Peggy, "How many days have you not come to see me?" Is work that busy for you?"
- When Peggy heard this, she lowered her gaze and said, "Mom, I'll be able to stay with you more after I take care of some work. I can leave the Cruz family as well in order to be with you in the hospital.”
- Peggy's work had consumed practically all of her day since her mother's operation bill was over $1 million, which was a high expense for her. She didn't have much time to rest in the last three days, especially when she needed to raise the hundred thousand dollars.
- However, Peggy's mother chastised her as soon as these remarks were spoken!
- “I'll take you to the Cruz family, Peggy. You ought to be aware of my intentions. They won't treat you poorly if you behave yourself. Why are you still so ignorant? Didn't I tell you to obey Mrs. Cruz? The only way your life can be improved is by pleasing Mrs. Morgan and Ms. Joan. I can assure you that!"
- Upon noticing her mother's angry expression, Peggy recalled the doctor's directions and moved forward, patting her on the back while speaking in a shaky voice. "Mom, don't be angry. I didn't argue with them," Peggy said. “I've always been obedient in the Cruz family and didn't do anything wrong. But I would rather be with my own mother than with the Cruz family. I understand that you are acting in my best interest to ensure that I have a comfortable life in the Cruz family. However, I promised I would be able to earn enough money for us to live comfortably while you were around.”
- Freya frowned and immediately pushed Peggy away.
- Unprepared, Peggy stumbled backward as she pressed her hands on the corner of the table hard.
- Freya turned to face Peggy, who looked pale and had blood seeping out of her knees. Peggy also caught her mother's gaze, but she looked away.
- "You mentioned that you would be leaving the Cruz family to stay with me. Have you caused any trouble within the Cruz family? Peggy, please try to behave. Ms. Joan was a genius who excelled in every way possible, and had a wonderful upbringing. She was about to marry into the Soto family. You humiliate the Cruz family by selling alcohol in a bar. Gosh, if I'd known that my illness had dragged you down, I'd prefer not to have you take care of me.”
- When Peggy heard this, she stood up and approached her mother to hold her hand.
- "Mom, I'm wrong. You have just gone through an operation, please don't get frustrated. The doctor advised you to rest and not be unduly emotional. I went to the bar and started selling alcohol, just to afford your surgery. Nothing that I've done is wrong. I've saved up to sixty thousand dollars. I didn't mess around."
- Sixty thousand?
- Taking Peggy's hand gently, Freya said, "You have sixty thousand dollars on you? What if it's stolen, or you dropped it somehow?I'll hold onto it for you.”
- Peggy's lips were pursed. This was meant for her mother's surgery. Without hesitation, she took her bank card and gave it to her mother, saying, "You already know the password. It's your birthday.”
- "All right, good girl."
- When her mother's expression gradually softened, Peggy chuckled and said, "I will definitely cure you," carefully putting her face to the back of her mother's hand.
- Peggy did not stay on the ward for long. She took three days off from the bar, and the manager was already pressuring her.
- She hurriedly exited the elevator, and as soon as she made it through the hospital's crowd, she ran into Joan. She was dressed in a white dress with a high-end custom-made cashmere jacket and high-heeled shoes, and watched Peggy approach.
- Peggy paused; the tail ring on Joan's middle finger was too bright for Peggy to ignore, so she softly clenched her hand.
- Just as she was about to greet Joan, she took a hard slap!
- With a slap on her right cheek, Peggy's face tilted, flushed, and humiliated.
- Joan said, "Peggy, I sent you to sleep with William for three days," with a look of disgust. “You failed to even mention the tail ring, which is a very significant item. I really want to use a knife to make scratches on your face.”
- Biting her lip tightly, Peggy tried to deny it, but her mother's words sounded in her ears.
- She quickly swallowed up all of these feelings and closed her eyes.
- "Peggy, I warn you for the last time, if you dare leak anything about William, I will let you and your mother disappear!"
