• Alexa, still drowsy, forced her eyes wide open and slowly stepped out of her room. She left the lighting in her bedroom dim, matching the faint glow outside.
• She walked toward the sofa where her husband lay. Eric was sound asleep on the couch. Despite her lingering hurt over his treatment of her, Alexa couldn't bring herself to let him sleep there like that.
