• Dad and I were on our knees with the masked man standing in front of us like a goddamn controlling god, his pistol casually brushing against his lips as if savoring the taste of impending terror.
• Every muscle in my body quivered uncontrollably, my breath came in rapid with shallow gasps, and my heart pounded so fiercely it threatened to burst through my chest. I felt the icy grip of fear close around my throat and my knees trembled beneath me, digging painfully into the hard floor that suddenly felt like kneeling on broken glass.
