Chapter 20

• A sombre mood arrested the vicinity. We entered the pack house, Lucas fast behind me, barely giving me a moment to breath. He was being overprotective, while I understood why, I was tired of always feeling like a damsel in distress. "I'm fine.'' I let out as I looked up at him, but he didn't budge. He looked at me like nothing I even said made sense. "Darling, you're lucky I'm not chaining you to the bed right now.'' Everyone heard him, and it make me embarrased because the looks on his men's faces indicared they assumed it was a sexual innuendo. I was mad. I didn't like. But I couldn't argue with Lucas because he would never listen to me when it came to my protection. He was obsessively fond of killing anything that looked at me funny and treating me like property.
• Alpha Matthew walked at the side of my mate's father, for a moment, they shared a look of recognition before it passed. I thought I'd imagined it, so I simply kept walking.
• Aurelio, my mate's right hand man, was walking a few steps behind us while other guards were spattered around. I got the sense that Aurelio didn't like me. I wasn't sure why. I was a nice wonderful person. I've never hurt anyone and I never crossed paths with him.
