- “Aria, I can't believe what you did!” my mother declares, her voice full of indignation.
- I look at her, not understanding what she's talking about. My children are finally safe, lying in their beds, the soft sound of their breathing echoing in my mind like a fragile reminder that, at least for now, they are protected.
