• "Mom, can we watch a little television before dinner?" Thorne asks, already taking off his shoes with a hurry that only children have, sprawling across the couch as if it were his throne. His bare feet smack against the cushion carelessly as he lazily settles in, arms outstretched, claiming space.
• Before I can organize my thoughts and give a firmer response, the doorbell rings. My heart races immediately. Could it be him? Has Caelum dared to show up here again, without warning? My body instinctively prepares for the internal battle that arises every time I’m in his presence.
