Chapter 6

  • Elijah looked out of his window with hands inside his pocket. Maybe sending her a gift on the first day sent the wrong impression. Would she have liked the shoe he sent? It was the latest.
  • The Claire he talked to on the phone yesterday seemed playful and he still didn't know why he sent her the wrong picture of himself.
  • She would have loved it if Elijah Cohen chatted with her in the middle of the night just to wish her a happy birthday. Every girl would. He was a celebrity but still doesn't know why he decided to keep himself a secret from her knowing he was the one.
  • His secretary handed him his suit the moment she walked into his room. She was familiar with that place and she had been working for him for 4 years now.
  • His father had handed him the director post when he was 23 years old and since then, he finally moved out of the Cohen mansion and became his landlord. His female tenants won't stop staring and gossiping whenever he walked by.
  • "You picked the right person, sir," Linda said, standing with her hands at the back.
  • Elijah looked at her and smiled. Of course, he was friends with Linda. "I know. She is a passionate person and comes to think of it, I read her resume and she once worked with the Huttons before their business went down. Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" He asked placing his hand on his chin.
  • Linda nodded. "She is the daughter of the late Mr. Hutton. I figured yesterday but she doesn't seem happy when I brought up the topic."
  • "Hmm. Okay, please get the car ready." He said and Linda left the room.
  • He wasn't close to Mr. Hutton but they met once when he took Anne to eat at his restaurant on their date. He'd served them personally because once you are a celebrity, you get special treatment.
  • After a few, he was sitting at the back of the car and his secretary drove him to work.
  • Elijah approached his office. He placed his hand on the knob to open the door but the door opened before he could. He stiffened at the sight of who he saw as if he'd seen a ghost.
  • Claire swallowed hard and stared at the man in front of her. She wasn't expecting him to be here this early but he was. She was in front of the person she had a crush on for years and now her palms were sweaty.
  • He was more beautiful in person than he was in magazines or on the internet. He was appropriately dressed as a director should. His hair was combed to the back. His whine tie was matching the color of his suit. He was indeed a fashionable man.
  • "I came to drop the file from yesterday." She swallowed again. "Mr. Cohen." She avoided looking at him and looked at his shoes instead. Expensive.
  • "How was your first day?" Elijah asked and she looked at him.
  • "Huh?"
  • "Can I go inside my office?" He asked. His voice was low and calm. He could feel she was nervous but holding her hands would make things awkward. She doesn't know he was the so-called Elijah who had wished her a happy birthday by 12:am on a Wednesday.
  • Claire cleared the way for him to head inside. Her eyes told him a lot but instead, he avoided them and picked up the paper that was on his desk. He flipped it open and nodded his head with approval before looking at her. She was still standing at the door entrance.
  • "Miss Hutton." He called and she looked at him. "This is a very good idea. I never even thought about this idea for this coming Fall winter fashion."
  • "She put in a lot of work sir," Linda said as she smiled at Elijah who smiled back.
  • Claire could feel their closeness.
  • "You did a good job. I never thought we could make the 70's outfit more trendy this winter season and dark double denim should do the fun." He dropped the paper. "That's a very good idea."
  • Elijah couldn't stop smiling and the thought of it made Claire smile. She couldn't believe her idea would bring a smile to her director's face this early morning. She was glad he liked it.
  • The moment she entered the room on the 9th floor yesterday, she was inspired. The ideas from the fashion show she'd always watched on television made it even easier for her to think about this trend.
  • She had always been more intelligent. She could be reckless when it comes to love but when it involved work, she was never foolish. "Alright." She said. "Do you still need me for any work?"
  • "No. You have done enough. I mean, this is a job you were meant to do for a week but you did it in a day. That's impressive. You can go."
  • She smiled at him and turn to open the door. She was about to step outside when she remembered she haven't thanked him yet. She turned to look at him. "I liked the gift and that is very generous of you. Thank you, sir."
  • Elijah looked at her as she walked out of his office. He was glad she liked the shoes he got her. Claire was different from Anne. She doesn't look like someone who loved expensive things but will make the cloth look expensive when she wears them.
  • Anne almost ripped him off. She was the shopping type and never rest. Always the first to get the trendy and latest wear.
  • His secretary had told him about Abraham coming over to see him. What could be more important to make Raham leave his work and drive over to his company just to talk? Was it about Britney? Couldn't have been. Their father had forbidden them from interacting. Abraham was a disgrace to the family. His father had said to them the minute he found out his youngest son was a drug dealer.
  • In the USA, dealing drugs by rich mafias wasn't much of an offense.
  • Abraham was breaking the law and it doesn't seem like he will be going to prison for that. He was a high and mighty person and politicians looked up to him. He even owns a few expensive lands.
  • "Send a message to Raham. Tell him I will come over to see him myself when I am done here." He said to his secretary and she respond before leaving.
