Chapter 9 : Overflowing Happiness

  • Her eyes were sharp, burning with the fire of revenge.
  • Just as Lengyue was about to leave, she suddenly heard a little girl's voice from behind, "Mommy!"
  • That one word, "mommy," instantly pulled Lengyue back from the abyss of revenge.
  • She turned around and saw Xiaoting and Xiaohan standing at the door.
  • Xiaohan had a big smile on her face, while Xiaoting stood with his hands in his pockets, looking cold and aloof.
  • "Xiaoting, Xiaohan, mommy is here!" Lengyue crouched down, her nose tingling, tears welling up in her eyes.
  • Xiaohan rushed into Lengyue's embrace and hugged her tightly.
  • "Mommy, some bad people came just now, they were really scary!" Xiaohan said.
  • Lengyue tightly held Xiaohan's little hands, her misty eyes filled with concern as she asked nervously, "Did they hurt you?"
  • Xiaohan shook her head and said, "Big brother took me to hide in the cellar in the yard."
  • Upon hearing this, Lengyue looked at her son in surprise and asked, "Xiaoting, how did you know there were bad people?"
  • Xiaoting pushed up his glasses with his hand and calmly said, "I'm a genius."
  • His shameless answer made Lengyue burst into laughter. She stood up and walked over, embracing Xiaoting in her arms. "Alright, alright, you're a genius. In mommy's eyes, you've always been a genius."
  • Mother and son hugged for a while, and Xiaohan, in her childish voice, said, "Mommy, I'm hungry."
  • Lengyue turned around and looked at Xiaohan, smiling gently. She reached out and touched Xiaohan's head, her eyes filled with motherly love. "Okay, mommy will make something for this little glutton to eat. What do you want to eat?"
  • "As long as it's made by mommy, I want to eat anything," Xiaohan giggled.
  • Lengyue was touched by these words and looked at her son and Xiaohan. She felt an overwhelming sense of happiness.
  • Sometimes, Lengyue really wanted to know who she had spent that passionate night with six years ago, but she could never bring herself to face that hurdle in her heart.
  • Although that man had a mesmerizing beauty that fascinated her, in the end, Lengyue was violated by him, which her strong self-esteem couldn't accept.
  • That's why for the past six years, Lengyue had never investigated the identity of Xiaoting and Xiaohan's biological father. She didn't want to confront what happened six years ago, and besides, it had been six years, and people and things had changed. The memories in Lengyue's mind were also fading away with time.
  • In the big villa, Ding Ningqiu and Huo Jingran were having dinner.
  • Huo Jingran came back late because of some matters at the company, and Ding Ningqiu, in order to express her love for him, deliberately waited for him on an empty stomach.
  • However, the ordinary dinner was not as good as Ding Ningqiu had imagined.
  • She served Huo Jingran many dishes, both meat and vegetables, but Huo Jingran directly asked the servant to bring him another bowl of rice.
  • This made Ding Ningqiu very unhappy. Huo Jingran didn't treat her as his wife at all.
  • Although she was annoyed, Ding Ningqiu knew her position very well. She couldn't offend Huo Jingran no matter what. He could make her his wife, but he could also turn her back into an ordinary person.
  • "Husband, do you not like me serving you food?" Ding Ningqiu asked softly.
  • Huo Jingran responded coldly with a grunt.
  • This made Ding Ningqiu even more angry. She thought Huo Jingran would say no, but he didn't even bother to think and just grunted.
  • Ding Ningqiu felt that Huo Jingran was humiliating her in front of so many servants. As his wife, how could she endure such humiliation?
  • If it were any other time, Ding Ningqiu would have flipped the table, but in the face of Huo Jingran, she could only endure.
  • Ding Ningqiu silently reminded herself that even if she couldn't win Huo Jingran's heart, she had to get his money!
  • She still didn't give up and said softly to Huo Jingran, "Husband, you came back so late today, I'm sure there were a lot of things at the company that exhausted you. After dinner, let me give you a massage, how about that?"
  • Ding Ningqiu thought that with this caring and gentle sentence, Huo Jingran would feel a little bit of love. However, Huo Jingran didn't say anything and just continued to eat his food.
  • This made Ding Ningqiu furious. How could he treat her as if she were invisible?
  • If it were any other time, Ding Ningqiu would have flipped the table, but in the face of Huo Jingran, she could only endure.
  • Ding Ningqiu comforted herself in her heart. Her goal was Huo's money, not the useless title of Huo's wife.
  • With this consolation, Ding Ningqiu's anger gradually subsided.
  • After hearing what the butler said, Huo Jingran frowned slightly and muttered to himself, "This woman is so capable?"
  • Ding Ningqiu understood immediately. The assassin sent by the butler had failed again.
  • This puzzled her. She knew about Lengyue's skills and counter-surveillance abilities, but she had arranged a well-trained sniper to assassinate her. In theory, Lengyue shouldn't have been able to escape, so how did she fail again?
  • "Husband, are you talking about the female assassin who was drugged six years ago?" Ding Ningqiu asked knowingly.
  • The butler answered, "Yes, madam. The sniper we arranged not only failed to assassinate her, but was almost caught by her."
  • Hearing the butler's interruption, Ding Ningqiu's anger erupted. She wanted Huo Jingran to talk to her, not the butler.
  • "Did I ask you?" Ding Ningqiu's face turned cold as she angrily questioned, "Do you think it's appropriate for a servant to interrupt when the master is speaking? Before you open your mouth, think about your identity!"
  • "Shut up!"
  • Ding Ningqiu was stunned. She couldn't believe that Huo Jingran would yell at her for a servant.
  • "Husband, I..." Ding Ningqiu was terrified.
  • Huo Jingran suddenly stood up, reached out, and grabbed Ding Ningqiu's neck, his eyes bloodshot. "He is not a servant!"
  • Ding Ningqiu couldn't breathe, her face turning red.
  • She tightly held Huo Jingran's hand, desperately wanting to breathe.
