Chapter 5
- In the afternoon, Attorney Brown came to Audrey’s house with the will documents, and Simon also arrived as the witness as scheduled.
- She looked at the terms on the document and confirmed what she wanted word by word.
- "My gallery, the property purchased before marriage, and the remaining two million savings, except for the payment of my future medical expenses, will all be donated to the cancer relief charity foundation."
- Pausing for a moment, she added, "Furthermore, in the matter of voluntary organ donation, Jasper has no right to know, let alone interfere. All my funeral arrangements will also be handled by the charity foundation without his involvement."
- Attorney Brown nodded and carefully recorded it down. "Audrey, if everything is correct, you can sign here."
- She picked up the pen and signed her name stroke by stroke.
- On the third afternoon after the will was completed, the doorbell suddenly rang.
- It was Vanessa. Her belly was not showing yet, but she deliberately stood straight.
- "Audrey, Jasper asked me to bring these documents over."
- As she spoke, her eyes scanned the living room unabashedly with a look of appraisal and flaunting.
- Audrey stepped aside to let her in, and as soon as she closed the door, she suddenly covered her mouth and hurried to the bathroom door to vomit.
- After vomiting, she took out a wet tissue to wipe her mouth and spoke with deliberate softness. "I’m sorry, Audrey. I've been like this lately, probably because the baby isn't adapting well."
- She deliberately touched her belly and gazed at me, saying, "Jasper has been so worried about me lately, reminding me several times a day not to overwork myself. He even said that once the baby is born, he will transfer the downtown loft to my name."
- Seeing no reaction from Audrey, Vanessa leaned forward again, lowering her voice but making it still audible enough for Audrey to hear clearly. "Audrey, you know, Jasper and I are truly in love. Since you're not in good health, why not let go early and save everyone the trouble? The position of Mrs. Goldland will be mine sooner or later."
- This sentence completely exposed her disguised fragility.
- Audrey put down the water glass, walked up to her, and calmly looked into her eyes.
- Vanessa seemed a bit flustered under Audrey’s gaze and subconsciously took a step back.
- Audrey smiled at her, but the smile did not reach her eyes, which held nothing but coldness. "Congratulations on becoming a mother."
- She was taken aback for a moment, seemingly not expecting Audrey’s reaction.
- She was about to reply when Audrey interrupted her, saying, "However, are you sure you can sit securely in this position of being Mrs. Goldland?”
- Audrey’s voice was soft, but the words pierced straight into Vanessa’s heart.
- The smug expression on her face froze instantly. Her lips moved, but no words came out of her mouth for a moment.
- "Put down the documents. I'll give them to Jasper when he comes back."
- Audrey turned and walked towards the sofa, not looking at Vanessa anymore. "Take your time. I believe I don’t need to see you out."
- Vanessa gritted her teeth, dropped the documents, and hurriedly left.
- After she left, Audrey called Mr. Lyons, the old shareholder who had helped Jasper start his business. He had always respected Audrey for the help her family had given him during his entrepreneurial days.
- When the call connected, Audrey simply said, "Mr. Lyons, I have something to send to you and a few other members of the board. It's related to the company's reputation. Are you available?"
- Mr. Lyons immediately agreed. "No problem. Just send it over."
- After hanging up the phone, Audrey sealed the envelope, wrote the addresses of the senior shareholders, and called for a courier to pick it up.
- Watching the courier take the envelope away, Audrey leaned back on the sofa and closed her eyes.
