Chapter 1
- On their seventh year of marriage, Audrey found the lingerie of her husband’s assistant in his closet, stained with their bodily fluids.
- In the past, she would have definitely made a big fuss, demanded an explanation from him, and ended up making everyone unhappy.
- But this time, she just quietly dialed Simon's number.
- "Simon, I need to ask you something..."
- The next moment, her hand was grabbed by an enraged man.
- "Who are you calling?!"
- Audrey hurriedly tried to hang up the phone, but he threw it away, grabbed her roughly, and forced his way with her.
- "Do not forget, Audrey. You are my wife. So why don't you scream? Let that wild man know that Mrs. Goldland is not someone he should dare to even think about."
- Tears fell from Audrey’s eyes as her lips bled, but she still bit down hard on the wounded flesh and refused to let go.
- What her husband didn't know was that she was dying from pancreatic cancer.
- And that phone call was her intending to sign the organ donation agreement.
- ...
- Suddenly, Jasper's hand grabbed Audrey’s wrist.
- "Who are you calling?"
- Audrey wearily closed her eyes, not even having the strength to explain anything to her husband.
- The gnawing pain in her stomach began to creep up again, and cold sweat started to soak the back of her nightgown.
- For the past two months, this kind of pain had been getting more and more frequent, but Audrey could only grit her teeth and bear it.
- "Audrey, I allowed you to work at the gallery to pass the time, not to flirt with those wild men under the guise of work!" Jasper's voice roared in her ears.
- On the other end of the phone was Audrey’s attending physician, Simon.
- Since being diagnosed with late-stage pancreatic cancer, they had been talking almost every day to discuss treatment plans. But today was a little bit different. Instead of treatment plans, Simon and Audrey talked for hours about the voluntary organ donation agreement.
- But Jasper had never noticed that Audrey was sick. It didn’t seem to dawn on him that she had lost nearly twenty pounds in the past two months, making her once-fitting nightgown hang loosely on her frail frame.
- All he saw was his need to control his wife. He was so blinded by his worries that his "Mrs. Goldland" would embarrass him and have clandestine involvement with the male artists at the gallery.
- Finally, Audrey’s anger mounted and couldn't be suppressed any longer, making her snap waspishly, "Jasper, I'm tired now. Can we talk about this tomorrow?"
- Every word Audrey uttered only intensified the pain in her stomach. She could even feel the cold sweat trickling down her cheeks.
- But to Jasper, her exhaustion was just a cover-up for her supposed guilt.
- He suddenly grabbed Audrey’s wrist, snatched the phone from her, forcefully unlocked it with her fingerprint, and quickly scrolled through the call logs.
- "Who is Simon?"
- He shoved the phone screen near her face as his eyes seemed to devour her with their hostility.
- In return, Audrey panicked. So, she reached out to grab her phone back from Jasper, screaming, "Stop it! This is my private business!"
- She couldn't let him know about her condition. With his personality, he would only think she was seeking sympathy by pretending to be sick. Or worse, he might accuse her of causing trouble even in death.
- "Private business?" Jasper sneered. "Since you're protecting him so much, I have to ask, what is the relationship between the two of you?”
- Before Audrey could respond, he pressed the call-back button.
- From the other end of the phone, Simon's calm and steady voice came through, "Audrey? What just happened..."
- Simon's voice directly hit a nerve with Jasper.
- He harshly grabbed Audrey’s neck with one hand and put the call on speakerphone.
- Then, in a near-brutal manner, he demanded that Audrey make a sound for Simon to hear on the other end of the line.
- "You are my wife, and you can only be mine! You can only revolve around me."
- Without any foreplay, Jasper forced himself into Audrey, causing a sharp pain in her lower body. Something warm and wet, a kind of liquid, then trickled down her legs. She knew without a doubt that it was blood.
- Her lips bled, and her nipples became numb as he bound her hands above her head. Even then, the force of his movements grew more and more ruthless, and Audrey felt like her internal organs were all out of control. Even her voice was hard to control.
- Just then, in the corner of her eyes, she managed to catch a glimpse of her phone's screen, finding out how the call hadn’t ended yet.
- Audrey was left with no choice but to endure the humiliation again and again in quiet despair.
- "You... you're killing me, killing me," she stuttered weakly.
- But Jasper was not listening.
- In the end, he didn't even use protection, releasing all of his seeds inside Audrey.
- Afterward, he settled beside her on the bed, holding her securely in his arms.
- Then, when he spoke, his voice carried a certain tone that made him sound like he was the one aggrieved. "Audrey, you can't cheat on me with other men behind my back. I won't allow it."
- Audrey struggled with all her strength and shouted with a hoarse voice, "Jasper, who are you to say that to me? You and your assistant went on a business trip to Zurich and stayed in a hotel for three days and two nights. Do you think I'm blind?"
- Audrey had found out about it when she went to the company to deliver documents. It was then that she accidentally overheard Jasper’s assistant, Vanessa. She was on the phone, saying they needed to destroy their itinerary in Zurich. She also mentioned that the necklace she was wearing was identical to the one he bought at an auction last month.
- But it wasn’t just that. Audrey didn’t also fail to notice the way Vanessa always looked at Jasper. It was not how a subordinate would look at their boss.
- The hold Jasper had on Audrey suddenly loosened. She then greedily gasped for air as her tears flowed even more fiercely.
- Since discovering the affair between him and Vanessa, Audrey had been pretending to be calm, making this the first time she cried so miserably in front of him.
- Perhaps she had hit a nerve, because Jasper freed her from his grip. Still, his demeanor remained intimidating.
- He looked at her as if the previous grievances were nothing but her illusion. "I don't know what you're talking about. Vanessa is just my assistant. We went to Zurich to discuss a project."
- Audrey turned away, unwilling to allow herself to become entangled with him anymore.
- Just then, his phone suddenly rang.
- He glanced at the caller ID, subconsciously moved aside, and answered the phone without daring to meet Audrey’s gaze.
- At this, Audrey couldn't help but sneer.
- He always valued his personal time, never allowing anyone to call him late at night. Who else could make him treat them so specially other than Vanessa?
- In the first five years of their seven years of marriage, they were the envy of everyone.
- She had been with him, even during the early days of his business. She ate instant noodles for three years and even used all of her savings to support him.
- But now that he had become the successful and renowned Jasper Goldland, he had thrown their relationship to the wind, leaving only endless control and betrayal.
- Audrey and Jasper might've loved each other so deeply once, but now it wasn’t the case anymore.
