• The ride to Kai’s house felt shorter than usual, maybe because my mind would not stop racing the entire way because I knew what I was going to do. When we finally pulled into the long, curved driveway of the Blackthorn estate, I could hardly calm my beating heart.
• Kai cut the engine and I climbed off the bike slowly, pulling off my helmet and shaking my hair free. He removed his helmet too and ran a hand through his hair, ruffling it into that familiar careless mess that somehow still made him look handsome.
