- Kai was heavy. Way heavier than I imagined, his entire frame leaning on me like I was supposed to carry the weight of his world and his drunkenness at the same time. My shoulder ached as his arm draped over me, his body slumped forward while his head lolled dangerously close to my neck.
- “Stay awake,” I muttered, dragging him along the path that led away from the garden. “Come on, Kai, walk. Don’t make me drag you like a dead body.”
