Chapter 8
- Miles laughed. “Caroline, you have no right to say that. Everything you have came from me.”
- “Guess you really did lose your memory,” I said, my voice as cold as ice. “Totally forgot how you got your money and status.”
- His smile died.
- Selene whispered, “What does she mean?”
- “Shut up, Caroline," he snapped. "Come back to Stone Pack with me. You will never see the sun again until you give birth!”
- Miles’s big hand shot out and clamped down on my arm.
- I’d had it.
- Right then, Damian showed up and pulled me behind him.
- His raw power made Miles’s knees go weak. Selene went white, her shoulders shaking.
- Miles gritted his teeth. “Alpha Damian, I’m disciplining my mate. This has nothing to do with you!”
- “Your mate?” Damian’s smile was pure mockery. “I don’t see your mark on Caroline.”
- Miles had nothing to say.
- My lawyer arrived fast and flashed the paperwork.
- “Miss, I filed for division of mate assets just like you asked. From now on, anything under Alpha Miles that’s tied to you is frozen and can’t be sold.”
- I nodded.
- If Miles hadn’t tried to sell the gym, I would’ve almost forgotten about the money.
- By the Werewolf Council’s rules, once mates split, assets had to be clearly divided.
- I wanted to be done with this bastard so badly that I almost skipped that step.
- I didn’t care about his cash, but I would take what was mine.
- Selene glared daggers at me. “Drop the act. How could you even afford a lawyer?”
- Miles recognized my lawyer right away.
- “Mr. Parker, why would you take a lowly Omega’s case?”
- Two years ago, Miles only became Alpha because the most famous attorney in the wolf world, Raen Parker, vouched for him.
- Raen frowned. “Who are you calling a lowly Omega? If Miss hadn’t asked for my help, you wouldn’t even get to see my face. Everything you have came from her.”
- Selene panicked. “Miles, you said you earned the Alpha seat all on your own…”
- Miles didn’t have time to soothe her. He just stared as Raen, Damian, and I walked away.
- He couldn’t wrap his head around it.
- The “lowly” Omega mate he looked down on somehow had, in just a few days, turned into a high-and-mighty “Miss” who could move among big-shot Alphas…
- Three days later, Miles said he had the asset agreement ready and met me at a café.
- “Finally, just the two of us, to talk calmly,” he said, all earnest. “Caroline, can you tell me what the hell is going on?”
- I wasn’t in the mood for small talk. “Where’s the agreement?”
- He looked shocked. “You only care about the assets?”
- I couldn’t help but laugh. “What else should I care about—our relationship? Didn’t you forget everything?”
- “At least I know you’re pregnant. I have to take responsibility for the pup, and so do you!” Miles was getting worked up. “You can’t take my pup to cozy up to other Alphas to climb higher. You weren’t like this before…”
- “I don’t need to cozy up to any Alpha.”
- 'I am an Alpha.'
- “I knew you hadn’t changed.” Miles gently took my hand. “You missed your prenatal checkup two times in the past two weeks. Is it hard to go alone? I’ll take you.”
- I realized he was still living in a fantasy.
- He thought using the pup would make me stop the asset split and keep supporting him and Selene.
- I stared at Miles, my gaze ice-cold, and decided to rip the bandage off.
- “I don’t need prenatal checkups, Miles. Don’t you get it? The day you skipped my appointment for the first time and chose Selene, you made your biggest mistake.”
- Miles finally sensed something was off. His eyes locked on my flat stomach.
- “The pup. Our pup… What did you do to him?”
