Chapter 1

  • On the day of my prenatal checkup, my Alpha husband Miles stood me up.
  • Instead of going to the hospital with me, he went to pick up his ex, Selene, and bring her back to the pack.
  • On the way home, rogues ambushed them.
  • When I rushed to the hospital, worried sick, I walked in on Miles kissing Selene like he’d forgotten the world.
  • “Miles, what are you doing?” I couldn’t believe it.
  • The mate who’d sworn before the Moon Goddess that he’d be faithful only to me... now betrayed me.
  • “Who are you? I don’t know you,” Miles said, staring at me, his eyes blank.
  • I quickly learned from the pack doctor what had happened.
  • Miles had a head injury from the rogue attack and lost his memory.
  • I was stunned. “How could this happen?”
  • He remembered everyone—except me, his pregnant mate.
  • Selene tried to “comfort” me, but her tone was sharp. “Sweetheart, you can’t imagine how terrifying it is to face rogues. After all, you’re just an Omega who can’t do anything.”
  • “I’m going to mark Selene. She’s the she-wolf who saved me on the battlefield,” Miles announced.
  • “I’m the one who saved you,” I said, heart shattering.
  • “Don’t lie, Caroline. You’re a lowly Omega. How could you possibly save me?” Miles looked at me with pure disgust. “Even if I’d been blind back then, I could still tell. It was a powerful she-wolf like Selene who helped me!”
  • I’d never told Miles that our first meeting was on the battlefield.
  • He’d taken an injury to the eyes. I shifted, carried him on my back over the snowy mountains, and begged the Healer for help.
  • I didn’t want him to love me just because he owed me.
  • But now Selene had stolen my story—and she was about to steal my mate.
  • I couldn’t accept that.
  • To make Miles remember me, I pushed through all the first-trimester hell, traveled across the five major packs, saw every wolf healer I could find, and even begged a witch for help.
  • When I came back to the packhouse with the hard-earned potion, I overheard Miles talking to his friend Boris.
  • “Miles, you didn’t lose your memory at all. Why not just dump Omega Caroline outright?”
  • “Caroline will never accept it. She’s too vain. She’ll cling to the Alpha house no matter what. So I can only fake amnesia to shake her off.”
  • Boris reminded him, “She’s carrying your pup, though.”
  • “Selene hurt her womb saving me on the battlefield. She can’t have kids. Caroline’s lowborn Omega blood will drag my pup down. But as long as we take the pup, I’m sure Selene will raise him into a perfect heir.”
  • His devilish words were like knives, stabbing my heart again and again.
  • “The day Caroline gives birth to the pup is the day she’s kicked out of the pack,” Miles declared.
  • The world spun. I clapped a hand over my mouth to keep from puking on the spot.
  • Miles kept talking about how he’d been hot and heavy with Selene behind my back all these years.
  • That was when it hit me—they’d rekindled things a long time ago.
  • Miles often used “pack business” as an excuse to sleep with her and promised that once Selene got pregnant, he’d bring her home.
  • But Selene couldn’t have kids.
  • So they set their sights on my womb.
  • Miles didn’t love me anymore. He just wanted to use me to give him and Selene an heir.
  • I don’t even know how I kept quiet. I clenched my teeth and slipped out of the packhouse without a sound.
  • I pulled out my phone and dialed a number I hadn’t called in a long time.
  • “I regret it. Take me home…”
  • Before I heard an answer, a heavy cramp ripped through my lower belly.
  • Pain and panic wiped me out. The phone slipped from my hand and hit the floor.
  • I looked down. A warm, scarlet stain spread between my legs, blooming across my white dress…
