Chapter 7

  • I hung up on him.
  • Our pup had somehow become the chip Miles used to threaten me.
  • But our pup was gone for good.
  • A sharp pain stabbed through me. No way I was getting back to sleep, so I headed to Max Gym early.
  • Inside, Omega staffers bustled around, greeting me warmly.
  • This used to be where Miles did his rehab after his eyesight came back.
  • Back then, I’d stepped in to help him on the floor.
  • He always thought that was the first time we met.
  • Later, to honor our love, I bought the place and turned it into a training center famous across the werewolf world.
  • It also became the most profitable business under Miles’s name.
  • But after he became an Alpha, Miles decided this place was tacky. He never came here again. Not once.
  • “What are you thinking about?” Damian slid close behind me, bracing my arms. “Don’t zone out when you’re training.”
  • Ever since the party, Damian had been sticking with me—through everything, even my rehab.
  • I slipped to the side and swung a punch at him.
  • My fist thudded against his solid chest. Damian didn’t move an inch. I was the one who staggered.
  • He caught me. I hooked him with my legs instead, rolled, and slammed him to the floor.
  • My sweat sank into Damian’s bronze skin, giving a faint shine on those muscles.
  • Our scents mixed. Weirdly, I didn’t hate it.
  • I shot back, “Don’t space out when you’re training.”
  • Damian grinned. His big hand clamped on my waist, keeping me from getting up.
  • I was forced even closer to his almost perfect body, my lower belly pressed right between his legs.
  • In a low voice, Damian said, “Not getting distracted around you? That’s damn near impossible, Caroline.”
  • No male wolf had ever said that to me.
  • Miles never did either.
  • Then I felt Damian get hard. His erection was huge—at least three times bigger than Miles’s.
  • I shot to my feet. Damian looked embarrassed. “I can explain—”
  • With my face burning, I bolted into the locker room.
  • I knew it was ridiculous, but his heated gaze—and the fact he got hard for me—made me feel like a real woman.
  • When I came out, a sickly sweet pheromone stink hit me. Selene’s.
  • “Once we sell this gym, you can give me the grandest mating ceremony ever.”
  • Her voice drifted over.
  • Miles and Selene were strolling around the facility.
  • Almost at the same time, Miles spotted me too.
  • He strode over. “Caroline, I still haven’t forgiven you for what you did at the party! And you still dare show up at the gym?”
  • “You’re selling Max Gym?” I demanded.
  • Miles didn’t hesitate. “Yeah.”
  • Max Gym was where I poured more of myself than anywhere except family. It was basically my second kid!
  • And for his ceremony with Selene, he was going to sell it off that easily?
  • I swallowed my rage. “I won’t let you touch this place!”
