Chapter 4

  • Selene’s eyes went wide. “You have a way?”
  • I glanced at my watch. “He’s got thirty seconds. Tops.”
  • Selene gritted her teeth, pissed as hell, then tossed me the necklace.
  • I pocketed the necklace, pulled an emergency spray from my bag, and used it on Miles.
  • Miles clung to me on instinct, slowly coming around.
  • When he realized it was me, shock filled his eyes.
  • “Why the hell are you carrying meds for me?” Miles asked through Mindlink.
  • I shoved him off me and didn’t answer.
  • This time, I shut down the Mindlink between us.
  • How funny. Miles didn’t even notice.
  • His life was so damn smooth because of me—the useless Omega housewife in his eyes.
  • There was almost nothing in my purse that was actually mine.
  • Since the day we bonded as mates, my world orbited him. I didn’t get a single second to be myself.
  • I still hadn’t kicked out that habit.
  • Selene helped Miles to his feet. “Did you come back just to get Alpha Miles killed?”
  • “Of course not.” I smiled and shook my head. “I came to reject Miles.”
  • Under their stunned stares, I spoke slowly and clearly.
  • “Moon Goddess, be my witness. I, Caroline Hearst, reject you, Miles Waller, as my mate.”
  • Miles looked like he’d been struck by lightning. “You dare reject me?”
  • I kept my voice steady. “Miles, you don’t even remember me. I guess that says how little I matter in your life. So I’m letting you go. And I’m setting myself free.”
  • He stared at me, conflicted, like he was seeing me for the first time.
  • I knew he’d been dying to reject me and mate with Selene again.
  • So why the hell was he hesitating now that the chance was right here?
  • Selene practically vibrated. “Miles, hurry up and accept it!”
  • She’d been itching for this.
  • After a long silence, Miles finally said, “I accept your rejection.”
  • Pain ripped through me, like half my soul got yanked out.
  • A minute crawled by. It felt like a damn century.
  • I should’ve crumpled to the floor.
  • But nothing hurts more than the surgery that took my pup.
  • I held on.
  • Not a scream. Not a tear.
  • Meanwhile, the high-and-mighty Alpha Miles clutched Selene, riding out the pain.
  • Selene soothed him, then shot me a smug, taunting look, like she’d just won it all.
  • I turned to go, slow and steady—only to find a line of guards blocking my way.
  • “Put the Omega, Caroline, under house arrest,” Miles ordered under his breath. “Careful. Don’t hurt her.”
  • His eyes flicked to my belly.
  • It clicked. Even after accepting my rejection, Miles still planned to steal my pup.
  • He meant to lock me up until the day I gave birth.
  • But Miles had no clue. The heir he obsessed over—he’d killed that baby himself a week ago.
  • Before the guards laid a hand on me, an overwhelming Alpha aura slammed into the room.
  • My brother strode over. “What took you so long?”
  • Miles was stunned all over again. “Alpha Carlos? Why are you in Stone Pack?”
  • Carlos took off his jacket and draped it over my shoulders, eyes soft. “For my family.”
  • Miles let out a disbelieving laugh. “No way. Caroline’s just a lowly Omega. There’s no way she has Alpha family!”
