Chapter 13 Hello, Police!

• Her lithe frame was tossed backward from the punch, nearly making her topple, but she was quickly caught and dragged by two of Tony’s goons, who looked like they’d stepped out of a low-budget mob movie.
• Every step now was a symphony of agony, leaving Marissa so tired she could barely muster the energy to flail her limbs. Her head lolled to the side, blood from her split lip tasted like old pennies, and she was about half a heartbeat away from passing out as she was dragged into the living room.
• Marissa’s eyes widened when she saw the dashing villain lounging on a one-seat sofa, his arms crossed, glaring at her with an intensity that could melt steel. But what really threw her for a loop was the sight of three police officers sprawled on other sofas, looking like they were at a game night instead of dealing with a dangerous criminal.
