Chapter 27 Nothing Will Change

• Kelsie and Anne-Marie Hanson walk back out of the house and I watch them with my eyes as they sit back down at the table. Something is off about Kelsie. Her body language isn’t quite the same and when her eyes meet mine I know something wild went down in that bathroom. I feel my body tighten. Is she alright? Maybe we should leave… Kelsie must be able to read all of this on my face because when she sits back down with the other teenagers she quickly shoots me a look that tells me everything is okay and that we can talk later. It relaxes me, but not by much.
• “Dang, Holden! You and your daughter sure do make a mean apple pie!” Laurence cheers, stuffing his face with another bite.
