Chapter 8 Don’t Trouble Yourself

  • With Winston ogling at her, Summer didn’t feel comfortable at all.
  • Drawing in a deep breath, she plastered a fake smile on her face and headed toward the entrance while pushing on Wyatt’s wheelchair.
  • When they walked past him, Winston suddenly raised his arms to stop them from going further.
  • “What’s the rush? Summer, are you too shy to speak with me?”
  • Folding his arms together, Winston glowered at Wyatt with disgust and contempt, but he faked a voice that sounded kind and caring. “Wyatt, I have a feeling that your little wife here is hiding something. I believe she married you with intentions,” said Winston while deliberately taking a few quick glances at her chest area.
  • Noticing his lecherous gaze, Summer frowned and instinctively turned away from him.
  • Instead of holding back his gaze, Winston let out a smirk and suggested, “Wyatt, Grandpa is getting up in years and can’t possibly see through a little lass like her. On the contrary, I have seen a great deal. Perhaps you can allow me to have a little chat with your little wifey here? I’m sure I can help evaluate her character for you.”
  • Clutching tightly onto the handle of the wheelchair, Summer’s hand turned colorless.
  • Though she was an orphan from the countryside, her uncle and aunt, Andrew and Grace, had never mistreated her. Since young, she had matured well and was blessed with a voluptuous body shape, which often gave her unwanted attention.
  • During her school days, countless male students would eye her lustfully. In the past, Harper would often protect her, but at this moment, they were standing on Winston’s ground.
  • Being the blind person, Wyatt couldn’t see the way Winston looked at her, so she couldn’t imagine what would happen if Wyatt allowed Winston to bring her to someplace for a chat.
  • Obviously, she couldn’t bring up her concern to Wyatt now because, after all, Winston had never crossed the line.
  • Chewing on her lower lip, Summer could only pray hard that Wyatt would not agree to Winston’s unreasonable requests.
  • With his eyes covered with the black silk, Wyatt could sense that the woman behind him was trembling in fear, while the man before him had a despicable look on his face.
  • Lifting the corner of his mouth, Wyatt said lightly, “After all these years, this is the first time you’ve ever shown concern toward me. When my previous fiancee died in a car accident, I still remember the very words you said: Good riddance! It’s better to die than to marry a man that will bring bad luck.”
  • Hearing that, Winston’s face turned grim. Letting out a cough, he said, “Hey, I was only joking! Wyatt, I’m just doing you a favor. After all, you can only hear her voice. On the other hand, I can actually see…”
  • Once again, Winston leered at Summer’s tiny waist. “Well, I can see everything about her. So I think it’s best if you allow me to have a good chat with her.”
  • Her face turned pale when she noticed the way Winston stared at Wyatt—with mockery and disdain in his eyes despite ironically sounding considerate at the same.
  • And he had the nerves to say that she harbored bad intentions?
  • “She’s just a country bumpkin, so don’t trouble yourself over it,” said Wyatt in a calm manner. “You know, it’s not easy for me to get a wife. Even if she comes to me with a bad intention, I am willing.”
  • Chuckling, he went on, “And besides, Summer is an orphan as well. Considering that she can end up getting married to a person like me, who brings misfortune, it’s very likely that we share the same destiny.”
  • “In any case, I’m more worried that something bad may happen to you if you were to speak to her. It may be disastrous, isn’t it?” warned Wyatt.
  • Upon thinking that Summer might share a similar fate as Wyatt, Winston was struck dumb. Taking a step back, he immediately shifted his gaze away from her.
  • Frankly, he wasn’t superstitious, but given those circumstances… he really should be careful, just in case.
  • From the looks on Winston’s face, Wyatt only found it amusing. “Let’s head in now.”
  • Heaving a sigh of relief, Summer immediately pushed the wheelchair toward the entrance.
  • The moment they walked past Winston, Summer winced in pain as she felt a pinch at her bottom.
  • Feeling an intense disgust, she hurriedly pushed Wyatt toward the entrance.
  • As soon as they stopped by the garden, Summer was still in a state of shock.
  • Never had she imagined herself being sexually harassed by her husband’s cousin.
  • Not to mention it happened just outside of Grandpa’s mansion!
  • “Are you okay?” asked Wyatt, with his brows snapped together.
  • “I… I’m fine.”
  • Obviously, she couldn’t possibly tell Wyatt about this because, at that moment, only the three of them were present.
  • Even if Wyatt knew, as long as Winston denied it, she wouldn’t have any other way to get herself out of this mess.
  • By then, the Malcolm Family would think that she was being unreasonable, or worse still, they might even think that Wyatt was being irrational for taking her side.
  • In this case, although she felt wronged, she still had to keep it to herself.
  • “I want a drink.”
  • The man’s voice managed to bring her back to her senses.
  • Looking around the garden, Summer didn’t see any maid servants around. With her lips pursed together, she said, “I’ll go get you some. You wait here.”
  • With that, she went into the house to fetch water.
  • The Malcolm Mansion was huge. When she managed to bring a cup of water over, Wyatt had just finished talking on the phone.
  • “This place is massive,” Summer complained while wiping the sweat off her forehead.
  • Taking a sip of the water, Wyatt asked, “After marrying me, do you feel wronged?”
  • Frantically shaking her head, Summer said, “Not at all.”
  • Though he was a disabled person and people viewed him as someone who brought misfortune, she held a totally different opinion about him. Without him, she wouldn’t have had the money to treat her grandma’s illness.
  • So in fact, he was her savior. To be able to marry my savior, why would I feel wronged?
  • At that, the atmosphere turned as quiet as the grave.
  • A moment later, the man with black silk over his eyes let out a sigh. “If you feel wronged, you have to tell me. I may be blind, but I’m not blind at heart.”
  • After making the trip around the mansion, Summer had actually forgotten all about the incident with Winston. As always, she was known for having a big heart, thus didn’t manage to relate Wyatt’s words with the incident she faced just now.
  • Looking heavenward, Summer suggested, “We should get in.”
  • Hesitated for a moment, Wyatt replied, “Alright.”
  • At the living hall, Wayne was having a conversation with Christian and his wife, Hayley.
  • When he saw them coming in, Wayne beckoned. “Summer!”
  • “Grandpa!” Summer had a serene smile on her face as she quickly made her way there while pushing Wyatt’s wheelchair.
  • Looking at her walking over, Wayne beamed. “I really like this child.”
  • Casting a glance at Summer, Christian said, “Of course, since you’re the one who chose her.”
  • Sitting beside him, Hayley, however, sneered. “I’ve heard that Wyatt had driven an old maid servant out of his house this morning. And it was all because of her. In the past, Wyatt used to have such a good temperament, but after he married this lass, things changed. I have a bad feeling about this woman…”
  • Frowning, Wayne interjected, “Wyatt is just way too dull. I reckon it’s a good sign that he’s showing other sides of himself.”
  • With her brows drawn together, Hayley never expected Wayne to take Summer’s side.
  • “Hello, Grandpa! And hello, Uncle Christian!” greeted Summer enthusiastically. While she was filling up a cup of water for Wyatt, she said, “The garden is huge. I’ve spent a while just walking around.”
  • Smiling brightly, Wayne gazed at her and asked, “Did Wyatt bully you?”
  • Shaking her head, Summer replied, “Nope. He is very nice to me.”
  • With a snort, Hayley sneered, “Indeed. All because of you, he had driven a maid servant out of the house.”
  • Due to Wyatt’s weird personality, Hayley had gone through a lot just to get Mrs. Kane to work over at his place. Unfortunately, after two days of work, she was fired for offending Summer.
  • Confused, Summer asked, “What? Who?”
  • “Do you think I shouldn’t have fired the maid servant who had insulted my wife on the second day of our wedding?” said Wyatt frostily.
  • “Summer is kind. She won’t utter a word, even after she got bullied. As her husband, why should I put up with this nonsense?”
