• Mona stopped and dragged Leo’s hand away from hers, her face chilly and distant. "Is there anything else, Mr. Cox?"
• Leo gazed at his empty palm and felt a sudden emptiness in his heart. Things shouldn't be like this. He peered into her eyes and saw that they were still. She didn't care about the gift he got her for her birthday or if he was there to celebrate with her. He swallowed the things he was about to say and said calmly, "I want to see the kids."
• Luke and Rue were still delighted about the excellent birthday present they had given Mona. Their faces collapsed as they saw Leo behind Mona.
