Chapter 4

  • Mona took a small step back since Leo was too close to her, but she smiled and said, "I only came here to finalize the deal with the Cox group Mr. Cox. What do you think I came here for in the first place?”
  • "Liar! The Hunt family sent you here on purpose, right?" Leo said with anger. “Are they out of money again and want to use old techniques to get you to beg for more as usual?”
  • The Hunt family had already gone bankrupt these five years and had been trying so hard in this five years to get financial support with the Cox family, but Leo had never agreed.
  • How could Mona not know what Leo was thinking after hearing what he said. Her expression fell right away. "I don't have any ties to the Hunt family anymore.”
  • She turned back to get the documents from Williams
  • without caring. But all of a sudden, Leo’s muscular right hand grabbed her hand, and pulled her along the quiet hallway.
  • Mona was so scared that she slapped Leo’s right hand that grabbed hers, in an attempt to free herself from his grip. But Leo, who looked angry, firmly seized her hand in the middle of the smack.
  • As he stopped walking in the hallway, he grabbed her two hands and raised it above her head, pinning it to the wall, his hot breath tickling her neck.
  • "The Cox mansion is not a place you can come and go as you please."
  • Mona was angry and only thought of how close they were, "Mr. Cox, we split five years ago. You better act right! Behave yourself.”
  • "Behaved myself?" Leo’s eyes sparkled with evil. "That's not what you said when you drugged me five years ago."
  • When Mona heard this, her face got a little paler and her gorgeous eyes sparkled softly. Leo’s eyes lost focus for a second, and he accidentally tightened his grip. Even though he hated her, he still wanted to keep her under his control.
  • Mona suddenly grinned, full of charm, when she saw the change in his eyes. "Mr. Cox, you’re saying I came here because of the Hunt family to ask for support, yet you’re all over me.” Her voice was gentle, and it made his ears tingle.
  • Leo’s face changed, and he pulled away from her.
  • Mona said, the mocking in her eyes turned to scorn. "Five years now and you’re still the same cold psychopath, Mr. Cox.”
  • His penetrating eyes on her as he responded. "What do you want?"
  • Mona carefully touched her wrist, which was now crimson. A shade that only lasted a moment crossed her eyes, and she got more impatient with him. "If I were still the Mona of years back, maybe I'd be..." she pause her words and smiled.
  • Leo felt like he was losing control when she smiled confidently. This emotion, which he hated the most, was like hearing of his parents' accident many years before, the first time he had ever lost control of his life.
  • She smoothed her clothing and looked at him with her dark eyes. "This is the last time I'll explain. I didn't drug you to get married to you, my parents did, whether you believe me or not it’s up to you.”
  • With that, she flipped her hair and walked out of the hall. Leo’s fists were stiff as he looked at her thin back.
  • Nate who saw Leo dragged Mona to the hall rushed to the hall after seeing Mona come out. When he saw Leo waiting in the dark hallway, he automatically swallowed hard. It wasn't the right time for him to show up.
  • Leo’s deep voice halted him before he could move. "Found out if it was Mona’s parents that really drugged me or it was her, eight years ago.”
  • “Yes sir.” Nate nodded.
  • Leo didn't believe her back then when she said she wasn’t the one who drugged him, and that she was also drugged by her patents. And he still doesn't trust her now.
  • He stood there, clenching his teeth.
  • Williams sensed that something was wrong between Mona and Leo and rushed to the hall. But Mona was already coming out of the hall by this time.
  • He hesitated before asking Mona after she came out of the hall, "Ma’am are you okay? Dif you know Mr. Cox before?"
  • "I don't know him." Mona responded and moved away fast.
  • “What about the deal?” Williams asked as he hurried to catch up.
  • “Another day. We should leave.”
  • As they made their way to go, Mona heard a weak voice from behind her.
  • "Mona? Is that you?”
  • Mona turned and looked at the person who Just called her.
  • It was grandpa Eric.
  • He had been in his room all this while and only just came out now.
  • She thought highly of grandpa Eric since he had always been nice to her. She smiled and said, "Master Cox,"
  • As soon as she said this, grandpa’s face darkened. "Silly girl, why are you being distant with me?"
  • She didn't want to offend grandpa, so she said in front of everyone, "Grandpa"
  • Grandpa Eric was happy. He smiled and held her hand. "Come on, tell Grandpa where you've been for the last five years."
  • Leo’s eyes slowly got darker as he came out from the hallway and saw grandpa being affectionate towards Mona in front of everyone. Even after this five years, he still love her as he used to like when she was still married to him.
  • Everyone called him master Cox and they knew only for someone to call him grandpa, it meant the person was closer to him. So if Mona called him grandpa and he behaved so affectionately, it meant they were closer.
  • The people were astonished. Master Cox distanced himself from other people except his son Leo, and butler. So when had he ever been so loving?
  • “Wasn't Sydney married to Leo? So why was master Cox being affectionate to Mona instead of Sydney?” Someone murmured in the crowd.
