Chapter 3
- Hearing that the report was back so soon, Adrian was proud that he had an assistant like Chad who was good at his job and was also fast when handling his tasks. Even though he was happy about that, the man still wore his cool distant expression as if Chad's efforts meant nothing to him.
- " Are you expecting me to ask you the details?"
- "oh right! I am sorry Sir. Her name Is Samantha Oliphant, she comes from a regular family in the working class. Her Father manages one of our automotive stores. She is doing her second year majoring in Business accounting and according to our findings she seems to be a top student in her class."
- He went on to report about Samantha as the car continued moving, heading straight to Adrian's villa. Soon enough the day of the school party arrived, all three of the girls met up in Oyi's room. They all looked concerned as they stared at the outfit Samatha had on.
- " Really friend? Is this really what you are wearing tonight? Gosh, it is so plain, it's like you are going to attend one of Mr warren's lectures." She then paused, but when she noticed the serious look on Samantha's face, the poor girl went into panic mode.
- "God no, please don't tell me that this is the outfit for the night, man how are you supposed to find your Mr right when you look like that?"
- Oyi voiced out her concerns as she looked at her friend from top to bottom still trying to figure out which clothes she could lend her friend for the evening.
- "Oyi is right, friend, It's a party for heaven's sake not an errand's day. Who knows which guy you will attract looking like that? Zinhle said this as she walked out of the room, she headed straight to her own room and came back after a few minutes with a stack of clothes in her arms.
- " Now you don't have a reason to look like that."
- She then tossed the clothes on the bed, and they went on to pick outfits for Samantha to try on which she wasn't satisfied with most.
- " These are just too revealing, gosh are we going to a college party or a strip club? Sigh, just bring me that top I'm pretty sure it will make my jeans look prettier."
- Hearing what she said, they also felt that she was right, the dresses were a bit short and revealing but they couldn't allow her to go out with just jeans and a washed out t-shirt.
- " Fine, take this pink blouse it complements your skin better."
- Samantha took the blouse, changed back to her jeans, and wore the blouse top but because the whole outfit looked a bit plain, she applied light makeup which elevated the look a little, she then wore her crystal white sneakers. She looked young, pure and innocent making people want to protect her. Once the ladies were done getting ready, they left the student residence and headed to the party venue.
- The music was loud, everyone was enjoying themselves as they swayed their bodies left and right, maintaining the beat of the song. The school had booked a few very famous musicians to perform at the party so the students were going crazy as most of them were seeing their idols for the first time.
- "Girl come on let's loosen up a bit."
- Said Zinhle as she walked up to them followed by a server who was holding a tray with three cocktails in her hands. She looked at Samantha and said
- " Sam, I know you said you will not be drinking tonight but this is very light, plus we need to relax. Come on taste it and If you don't like it, I won't force you."
- Since they were going out for the first time together, Samantha didn't want to disappoint her friends so she reached her hand out and took the plastic cup from tray and tasted the cocktail. She felt that the drink was so sweet and tasty that she downed the whole thing in one go, and asked in confusion.
- " Girl, how is this alcohol? It tastes exactly like juice, let me get another one."
- Both Oyisa and Zinhle looked at each other then at Samatha and Oyisa comment
- "It may not taste like an alcoholic beverage but there's definitely some in there, so you better slow down."
- The drink did infact taste delicious so Samantha thought they were pulling her leg when they said it had alcohol hence why she ignored Oyisa's warning and went ahead and ordered another one. After taking a few sips from her cup, she suddenly felt that going out wasn't so bad after all, and found that the party was fun, her nerves loosened a little and she started dancing and enjoying the party like every other student on the field.
- what she did not know though was that, right at the front, in the artist tent, A young man was standing there facing their direction, his eyes fixated on the girl who was dancing freely as if she was isolated from the problems of the world. There was an unnoticable smile on his face as he watched Samantha, wishing to be as free spirited as she was.
- " She's also here."
- He mumbled to himself, he had done some research on the girl and knew very well that he could not be with her, but the heart wants what it want and he was not about to restrain himself knowing very well that it was rare for him to like a woman. He slowly made his way to the three girls who had been having fun throughout the night. He had only taken a few steps when he suddenly saw a woman purposely bumping in to Samantha who was dancing and minding her business with her friends.
- " What the heck are you doing? don't you know how to be cautious of other people? just look at this, you've ruined my favorite shoes!"
- Samantha who had been bumped in to was now looking at the shouting woman in confusion, it was clearly her who had bumped in to Samantha yet she had the audacity to shout at her. Samantha felt that it was the woman who owed her an apology instead and not the other way around, but she still asked politely.
- "Is that so? tell me, how do you suggest we solve this?"
- Seeing how calm Samantha was, the woman got so frustrated that she gritted her teeth before spitting out the words.
- " Can you even afford to pay for these?"
- She asked mockingly while staring at Samantha. As the campus bell, everyone knew her very well she was not someone to be thrifled with, even the principal had to mince her words when talking to this woman. She came from one of the families in the upper class, and they own a reputable company and this had owned her quiet a few fans on campus, her name was none other than Lelo Carter of the Cater family. She knew very well that even if she bully the girl here no one will stand up for her, Samantha, a nobody who got in through a scholarship. What she did not know though is that her friends were very loyal to her and would fight nail and tooth for her.
- " How can you ask her to pay for your shoes when you were clearly the one who went out of your way to cause trouble in our section?"
