Chapter 9 Feeling Uncomfortable
- She had been in prison, treating sleeping with others as part of a gamble. But why did she confess that to him?
- Raelynn ended the call.
- Kendrick, are you feeling uncomfortable too?
- After ten years, even raising a pet would create some attachment, right? Even actors can lose themselves in their roles if they become too invested.
- But I'm not the same Raelynn I used to be.
- Everything between us is over.
- If you give me a child, we'll be done for good.
- Kendrick slumped onto the couch, thinking this woman was insane. Now, all she cares about is money. If he refuses to give it to her, she'll just turn to another man.
- As long as a man has money, it doesn't matter who he is, she couldn't care less.
- A sharp pain twisted in his chest.
- Ten years ago, when Raelynn was just 15, she fell into the trap he had set, grew to admire him, and by 18, she ended up in his bed. From that moment on, she stayed by his side. He always believed she only loved him, and even after their breakup, it never crossed his mind that she might be with another man.
- But now, not only is she with someone else, her love life is a mess. Unable to find steady work, she turned to selling herself.
- And worse, she wanted him to know.
- He stared at his phone, waiting for that shameless woman to call. But after watching the screen for ages, all he saw were junk messages and advertisements, nothing from her.
- Kendrick inhaled deeply and called the number back. When no one answered after a moment, he loosened his shirt buttons, exposing his well-built frame.
- The nervous gulping sound echoed as sweat trickled down his back. The thought of Raelynn seeking out men for money was overwhelming. Then, at last, a voice answered, "Hello," and he felt a wave of relief wash over him.
- "Where are you?" he asked.
- "I'm heading out soon."
- Heading out?
- Kendrick's fist tightened. "Come to my place."
- "But I already have plans with someone else." She had just scheduled a doctor's visit and needed to go to the hospital.
- Kendrick shut his eyes. "I suggest you come now. If I have to come get you, it won't end well for you!"
- Knowing she couldn't afford to anger him, Raelynn ended the call and had no choice but to move her doctor's appointment to the next morning. She then took a taxi to Kendrick's villa.
- When she arrived, Kendrick motioned to the sofa. "Come here."
- He handed her a check. "Here's the payment for this month. From now on, come by every night. And remember, keep yourself clean while you're with me."
- Raelynn eagerly took the check, kissed it a few times, and carefully placed it in her bag. "Don't worry, now that I have your money, I won't be with any other men. I promise to stay clean and serve you well every day this month."
- She was genuinely pleased. With this arrangement, she wouldn't have to worry about getting pregnant.
- If things continued like this, she figured she would eventually conceive, right?
- Kendrick stood up, lit a cigarette, and noticed that throughout the entire time, Raelynn never mentioned her father or their past conflicts.
- She was so calm and composed, which only made him feel more uneasy.
- After showering, he noticed she was taking a pack of pills. Upon closer inspection, he realized they were long-term contraceptive pills.
- He took a deep breath. Raelynn had already changed into his pajamas. She came over, hooked her arm around his neck, and began to kiss his Adam's apple. "I took your money, but I can't let you wear a protection. I'll take the medicine myself to avoid you getting hurt."
- Kendrick grabbed her hips fiercely, "When did you become so cheap?"
- "You don't know? I've always been so cheap, since I was 18, right?" She kissed him, laughing.
- Kendrick couldn't laugh. He could only press her on the bed and penetrate her fiercely. He seemed to be going crazy, slapping her on the buttocks one by one. "How many men have you slept with? Huh? Tell me!"
- In moments like these, Raelynn would simply smile without saying anything, responding to his inquiries with a more alluring pace.
- Kendrick knew that Raelynn was his for this month and he could sleep with her however he wanted. This month, he paid her and she served him, so the relationship between them was just a transaction.
- Once this month ended, it no longer mattered to him whether Raelynn was alive or dead.
- He wouldn't feel uneasy and frantic as he did today.
