• Raelynn flashed him her usual smile, a little less polished than when she was Linda but with a touch of the bright, radiant energy she once had. She spoke gently, "Mr. Reece, thanks to your care over the past six months, because of you, I was able to get promoted and transferred back to Astua so quickly."
• Kendrick stood frozen, unable to move. His entire body felt as if it had been paralyzed, blood seeming to freeze in his veins. His deep eyes fixed on her, and through gritted teeth, he asked, "What happened to your face?"
