Chapter 7 Contraceptive Pills

  • Raelynn felt like she was on the verge of being broken by this wild man!
  • "Kendrick! What's your problem? Do you even care about me? Does it bother you that your enemy's daughter is with other men? Ha! You're hilarious!
  • "Don't even try to say you care about me. I came back to you because no one wants to hire someone with my criminal history. I can't get a job, I'm just after the money."
  • Kendrick pressed down on her. He hadn't realized how cutting her words could be. She had once been like an alluring and playful kitten, always teasing and smiling around him.
  • When did she begin to taunt him like this?
  • He shut his eyes, vented fiercely, and finally released his grip.
  • He wasn't going to feel sorry for the enemy's daughter. He got out of bed, got dressed, walked back to his desk, wrote a check, and tossed it at her. "Leave, and also ... " He was about to say more when he noticed Raelynn pull a box of emergency contraceptive pills out of her bag.
  • She opened the foil, took a pill, easily popped it in her mouth, grabbed the water glass on his desk, took a sip, and swallowed it.
  • "I had an ectopic pregnancy with another man, so I can't get pregnant. I have to be cautious. That surgery was terrifying."
  • Kendrick was about to tell his secretary to get the contraceptive pill, but seeing her bring her own made his scalp prickle and tense up.
  • Raelynn glanced at the numbers on the check, grinning like a prostitute who had just received a generous tip. Kendrick reached out and tugged at the tie he had just fixed.
  • "Are you not leaving yet?" he asked.
  • "Thanks, Mr. Reece. If I use up all this money, can I still come to you?" Raelynn asked.
  • Kendrick really wanted to call her a worthless woman like he did when he slept with her in front of Lewis, but Lewis was already dead, and she had been to prison. It seemed like she didn't really owe him anything.
  • "Don't forget what you said in court, we're even now."
  • Raelynn took the check and playfully flicked it with her fingers. "Alright! Mr. Reece, can you introduce me to some generous bosses in the future? After all, you know I'm good at what I do. If I can't work anymore, I won't. I'll just make quick money while I still have my looks and then retire."
  • "Get out!" Kendrick grabbed the ashtray carelessly and hurled it at her.
  • The ashtray barely brushed past Raelynn's ear before slamming into the wall.
  • Raelynn stood there, unmoving. She calmly placed the check into her checkbook, turned around, and left, closing the door gently behind her.
  • A few former colleagues spotted her, and she purposefully adjusted her collar to reveal the hickey on her neck, her expression clearly saying, I just did something you wouldn't believe with your boss, do you get it?
  • Once outside, she stood tall and hailed a taxi.
  • As she settled into the taxi and closed the door, she suddenly looked up, covered her face, and began to sob!
  • The driver, startled, quickly asked, "Miss, are you alright? What's the matter?"
  • Raelynn sobbed, "I got fired, and I'm scared my parents will find out how far I've fallen. I have no one to turn to, life is just so painful, so difficult!"
  • The driver's hair seemed to turn white, and his eyes reddened. "Ah, you young people, always sharing the good times but never the bad. Your parents will never think less of you. The door at home will always be open for you."
  • "Sir, I don't have a home anymore! I'll never have one again!" Raelynn cried, her heart breaking. The driver pulled over to the side of the road and turned off the meter.
  • "Miss, cry if you need to. I won't charge you. Let it all out, I'll still take you where you need to go. I have a daughter around your age, divorced, and raising a child alone. She cried just like this countless times without me even knowing ... "
  • Noticing the tears in the driver's eyes, she realized that everyone faces their own struggles. When she got out of the car, she didn't want anyone to see her emotions.
  • After arriving at the bank, Raelynn paid the driver, not wanting to take advantage of anyone.
  • She deposited a cash cheque into her bank account and then headed to the hospital to visit her daughter.
  • Lola Elway, nearly two years old, had a shaved head.
  • She was barely reaching the age of two and already had leukemia.
  • She had to get pregnant with Kendrick's child, she must! Lola needed it.
  • The pills in the contraceptive box were just vitamins.
  • Getting pregnant on the first try wasn't easy, so she needed to ensure she was pregnant before severing ties with Kendrick.
