Chapter 8 Kendrick's Fury

  • After Raelynn left, Kendrick lost control and smashed his office as if the intense passion they shared hadn't been enough to calm the turmoil inside him.
  • His anger didn't spare anyone, from those in meetings to the human resources, marketing, and finance departments—everyone felt the brunt of his fury.
  • By the time the meeting was over, it was already nine in the evening.
  • When he returned to his office, the smell of Raelynn seemed to linger in every corner, bringing back memories of the scar on her abdomen.
  • Ectopic pregnancy!
  • During their relationship, he always made sure to pull out, except for that one time when he lost control in front of Lewis. For the past ten years, he never asked her to take any protection, and now, she sleeps with other men without using protection.
  • Now, she actually ended up with an ectopic pregnancy and had to undergo surgery!
  • The weight of it all made Kendrick feel a crushing pressure in his chest, making it hard for him to breathe.
  • For the past two years, he had focused entirely on his career, working tirelessly day and night. Despite the immense stress that left him relying on sleeping pills each night, she hadn't crossed his mind once.
  • But today, everything has changed. She had turned his life upside down.
  • Her words from the court still echoed in his head, "We're even now."
  • Even now, when things were supposedly settled, she came to find him? Asking him for money?
  • It was deliberate. She was trying to make him feel guilty, blaming him for her inability to find a job. She even dared to ask him to introduce her to other men.
  • Kendrick clenched his jaw, snatched his suit off the rack, and stormed out of his office. His assistant, Tim Shortle, hurried after him, saying, "Mr, Reece, the son of Tidebrook Group has invited you to the ... "
  • "I'm not going. Cancel it." Kendrick glanced at his watch. "Go find out where Raelynn is staying now."
  • A series of images flashed through his mind. He imagined that woman in a bold, red backless dress, mingling with various men.
  • Any man could touch her, caress her—if they just offered a check, she would follow them into the shadows, where her moans echoed endlessly.
  • His lips felt parched. He swallowed hard and ordered, "Do it now!"
  • But when he returned to the villa, Tim called, "Mr. Reece, we couldn't locate her. After her release from prison, there's no record of her renting a place or staying in a hotel."
  • Kendrick clenched a cigarette between his fingers, taking a long drag. "That's impossible. She must have somewhere to go!"
  • Yes, she had nowhere to go, unless she had another man.
  • Kendrik's composure shattered. "Keep looking! I want her address, now!"
  • In a fit of anger, he ended the call, only for his phone to light up moments later.
  • The name that appeared on the screen, after two years and eight months, read, "My Dear Lynn."
  • It was the contact name Raelynn had snatched his phone to change back then. Kendrick clenched his fists, heat creeping up his back. He stood up and moved to the air vent, letting the cold air wash over him.
  • But just as he was about to answer the phone, the call had already ended.
  • "D*mn it!" Kendrick muttered under his breath.
  • Just as he debated whether to call back, his phone rang again. He wet his lips and answered coldly, "What is it?"
  • "Hello, Ken!" Raelynn's voice was light and cheerful.
  • Kendrick's brows furrowed in irritation. He couldn't tell if his frustration came from his own restless mood all day or from how carefree she sounded.
  • "I lost all my money gambling tonight. Can you give me more?"
  • His grip on the phone tightened, his hand trembling slightly. Raelynn had never gambled before! What kind of bad habits had she picked up in prison?
  • She said casually, "You know how dull it gets in prison. I used to gamble on small things just to pass the time. I've been out for a while now with no job and nothing to do, so I gambled a bit and ended up owing some money. Can you help me out?"
  • Kendrick paced anxiously around the room. "Gambling on small things?"
  • Gambling on what exactly?
  • But something about it didn't sit right with him. It couldn't be that simple.
  • "What were you gambling on?" he demanded.
  • "Oh, things like helping someone wash dishes, do laundry, or maybe sleeping ... " Raelynn intentionally trailed off, leaving him to fill in the blanks. She refused to let Kendrick believe, even for a second, that she still had feelings for him.
  • Aside from the child, he was no longer someone she wanted any connection with.
  • "Raelynn! Go to hell! Right now!" Kendrick roared, feeling like his chest was about to burst from fury.
