Chapter 110

  • “Nothing for you to worry about,” his thumb caressed my bottom lip, his dark gaze holding me captive. There was no way I could look away. I didn’t think I was that strong to break the spell he had me under. “Death never scared me, Zarina,” he murmured. “Perhaps that’s the reason I’ve always been reckless and indifferent to the consequences my actions triggered. But I’ll be honest with you. This time, when Michael held that gun to my chest, for the first time in my life, I was terrified out of my mind. You know why?” he asked, his hand dropping from my face to curl around my throat, the other hand gliding into the chaos of my unkempt hair, bashing electricity down my backbone.
  • He wasn’t suffocating me by any means. Yet, I felt myself growing breathless. Before letting my head think too much about it, I climbed up onto his lap and straddled him. He was built of all the hard muscles and vigour that could rival the gods. I felt so incredibly lightweight against him.
  • The darkness in the room did little to see his face, but I knew he was close. So, so close.
