Chapter 6 First Challenge
- Inti’s p.o.v.
- Our plan is to move at night and rest during the day. Most Packs attack during the night and tend to their wounded during the day, we will use that information to our advantage.
- Resting at night means that someone is more likely to run into us and even though there is a risk to us moving at night, we decided, after careful consideration, that it was worth the risk.
- It is close to sunrise, when we finally make it to the first clearing and as we had practiced the Youngsters park the vehicles in a circle. Anyone that can’t fight will stay within the circle and the rest of us will run patrols to keep them safe.
- Herold is the first to get a few hours of sleep, while Joseph and I walk around the perimeter and talk to our Pack-members.
- This is a huge contrast to the life I once lived, but I always knew I would have to leave White Mountain Pack one day. I am grateful for everything Alpha Amarah and Alpha Theseus taught me.
- Being an Alpha was in my blood and I had made the decision to stay in Little Crescent territory, even though I knew the risks. I had just figured that everyone would get tired of waging war, but I had been dead wrong and now I am traveling through a war-zone to get to safety.
- Every single sound puts me on high alert, I have a Pack to protect and I will do so until my last breath. I am not the only one that thinks this way and I am grateful for my Beta and my Gamma, because without them we wouldn’t be here today.
- “Alpha, the little ones have trouble getting to sleep.” I hear a female Warrior say and I turn on my heel to get to the vehicles.
- “Mommy, I don’t want to go to sleep.” “Mommy, it is too light to go to sleep.” Those are the words I hear as I step into the circle and it is clear to see that every Pup is still wide awake.
- I look around at all the Pups and I know I don’t need them to go to sleep, they just need to rest. Driving during the night will help them fall asleep and if we are lucky we won’t get attacked, meaning that at least the Pups will get a good night’s sleep.
- After explaining to the Pups that they need to rest for a few hours during our stops, everyone seems to be more at ease and it becomes more quiet around us.
- Now we face the first challenge of the day, how do we make sure that the Pups get some rest?
- Some of our youngsters sit down with the Pups, one group is listening to a story and another group making drawings. Soon there are multiple groups that each have their own activity and every now and then a Pup moves to another group, but most stay with their group.
- One of our Omegas is walking around with drinks, while another follows her with some snacks for everyone.
- Joseph and I have taken a turn at getting some rest and we are enjoying the food our Omegas prepared for us. As soon as we are finished and everything is packed into the vehicles again, we will continue our journey to White Mountain Pack.
- It only takes a few minutes to get everyone back on the road and the only thing you can hear is our paws connecting with the ground and the low hum of the engines.
- Tomorrow the sun will be up by the time we reach our next resting place, if we don’t run into trouble along the way and I wish I hadn’t thought about that.
- Three Wolves run out of the tree line and it is clear to see that they are wounded and exhausted, but they are also males.
- “Alpha, more Wolves are coming.” One of our Warrior calls out through the mind-link and suddenly everyone is on high alert.
- The three unknown Wolves come to a stop not far from us and it looks as if they would rather face us, than the Wolves that are approaching through the forest.
- Eight Wolves come running out of the forest and it is clear to see that one of them is the Alpha, because a huge black Wolf is approaching. I had shifted back to Human form the moment the three Wolves were close enough, I needed to be in a position to talk to them.
- Ronion wasn’t going to allow that Alpha to get any closer to our Pack-members and he forced me to shift to my Wolf form again.
- He released a mighty roar and he took a step forward. His fur is a dark, deep purple color and he is bigger than the Alpha standing in front of us. Not many other Alphas have seen Ronion and most Alphas assume that he is smaller than them, because we are still young.
- “My Alpha wants you to leave or we will have no trouble taking your lives.” Herold says from my left side and for a moment I wonder where the hell Joseph is.
- “Keep them talking, there are three other Wolves in the forest with three unconscious females. All three females are marked.” Joseph reports over the mind-link and Ronion turns his head towards the three Wolves, each of them is wearing a mark on their necks.
- One of the other wolves has shifted back to his Human form and has his eyes on the Wolf that is closest to me. “Protect those Wolves, something tells me that Joseph found their Mates.” I inform my Warriors and within seconds all three Wolves are protected.
- “Not that it is any of your business, but these Wolves have betrayed our Alpha. Hand them over.” The male says and Ronion releases another mighty roar, sending the Fool to his knees.
- It is clear to see when the Alpha feels the bond sever to three of his Pack-members and it is the sign we have been waiting for. I lunge for the Alpha and my Warriors charge at the other Wolves, the one in Human form is dead before he can shift.
- After we have killed the Alpha and his Pack-members, Ronion lets me shift back to Human form and I can finally deal with the three Wolves.
