Chapter 5 Our Escape
- Indigo’s p.o.v.
- We slowly crawl onto the balcony, softly closing the door behind us and for a few minutes we sit there and listen.
- I take a look at the time and right on cue two Warriors walk around the corner of the Pack-house, they are a part of tonight’s patrol. They check every window and door on the ground floor, as they move to the other side of the Pack-house.
- We have ten minutes to get down to the ground and make a run for it, as quietly as we can. It will take another half hour before the back of the Pack-house gets checked again and that will give us enough time to move away from the Pack-house, to move closer to freedom.
- I am so grateful for Gamma Judas and his relentlessness in teaching us how to climb trees, mountains and buildings. There aren’t many females in our Pack that wanted to follow this class, but Jocelyn and I did.
- Our Alpha wanted us to have every piece of knowledge we could have, just in case we ever needed to escape and now we would use it to get away from our families.
- Jocelyn and I still don’t understand why our parents would approve of our Brothers’ plan, they have always been against forceful markings and yet they would back up our Brothers. Our parents were lucky enough to grow up in an era that still allowed us to be paired by the Goddess, to get a Mate that had her blessing.
- The moment my feet touch the ground, I lower myself on to my hunches and silently wait for Jocelyn to join me. For a second we listen for any sounds around us, but when it remains quiet we run to the nearest bushes and we keep repeating this routine for a while.
- We decided to leave the territory by crossing the border that is furthest away from the Pack-house, the chances of running into enemies there are slim and it increases our chances of escaping.
- A twig snapping to our left, makes us stop dead in our tracks and I am glad we are shielded from view by two very old trees. “That is Hailey, what the fuck is she doing out here?” I hear Jocelyn ask, but I doubt she is expecting an answer from me.
- Like us, Hailey has a backpack on her back and she is moving towards a stretch of our borders that has been attacked often. I am not sure if we should make it know that we are here and I slowly shake my head at Jocelyn, who is about to get to her feet.
- “Do you see anyone?” I hear our Alpha ask softly, from somewhere behind us and we lower ourselves closer to the ground.
- “No, I haven’t seen anyone and I have been walking around here long enough. We have one more night to find a female to hand over to Alpha Grant or you will have to pick someone, because I will never become his Mate, Dad.” Hailey says.
- Hailey is our Alpha’s Daughter, what the fuck? I can’t remember if I ever heard about our Alpha finding his Mate or having any pups.
- “Don’t worry, Princess. If we don’t find anyone out here tomorrow night, I will order Jocelyn to take Alpha Grant as her Mate.” Our Alpha answers and we listen to their fading footsteps.
- “What the fuck was that?” Jocelyn asks over the mind-link, but her guess is as good as mine.
- We wait for another minute or so and then we continue on our way to the border, more determined than ever to get the hell out of this territory.
- It takes us three hours to get to the border and then it takes another hour before we get the chance to cross the border without being detected.
- We stick to our routine and move from bushes to trees, making sure that no one can see us. Two hours after leaving the territory, we both feel confident enough to get to our feet and start running as fast as we can.
- The sun starts rising an hour after we started running and we know that soon they will find out that we are missing. They will come looking for us, especially after hearing our Alpha and Hailey talk about Alpha Grant.
- We don’t say a word, we need to preserve all our energy for running and for some reason we don’t need words to let the other know where we need to go.
- We slow down our pace after another hour of running at full speed and Jocelyn grabs the map we stole from her Father. He has maps of territories, of certain areas with multiple territories and a few maps of our entire Kingdom.
- Jocelyn had grabbed a map from our Kingdom, we needed to map out the best and fastest route to White Mountain Pack. We will try to avoid the open roads as much as possible, it will be easier to hide if we stay within the tree lines.
- We had marked quite a few areas that have mountains, most likely they will have caves and that is where we will rest for the night. If we can’t find a cave, we can always try to climb a tree and hope to find a good place to rest up there.
- Jocelyn and I have spent quite a few hours up in a tree and if you know what to look for, you can actually get a good rest. A large, old tree is the best choice, they have thicker branches that are close to one another and that makes for a nice place to stay.
- Right now, we are focused on finding a place where we can rest for a while and have something to eat. We didn’t bring much, there hadn’t been enough time to sneak up to our room and plan an escape route.
- Our Wolves can hunt for food and we can eat what we were able to put in our backpacks, it will sustain us for the time being. We will worry about getting enough and real food, once we are safe.
