Chapter 4 Leaving The Territory

  • Joseph’s p.o.v.
  • Not many of our Pack-members know this, but I had found a pattern in the attacks and we have been keeping a close eye on any changes.
  • We get attacked two nights in a row and depending on who attacks us on the second night, we have one or two nights of rest. This time we would have two nights of rest, but we will be leaving during the first night of rest and give them one hell of a surprise, the moment they attack again.
  • There are motion sensors along our borders and when they approach our territory on their next attack, it will set of a strain of detonators. Our Pack-house, School, Infirmary and a handful of houses are rigged, there will be nothing left of this territory.
  • Our trip would normally last about two days, but we know that with a raging war it will take longer and we are counting on a maximum of a week.
  • I take my time to check every vehicle, we need to be prepared for this trip and for everything that might happen along the way.
  • Right now, I wish I had listened to April, my baby Sister. If I had listened to her, we wouldn’t need to leave in the middle of a war and our trip would have been a lot saver.
  • We have our last dinner in the Pack-house and I think everyone is saying goodbye in their own way, for some this has been home for most of their lives. I have been calling this home for a little over ten years and I know I will miss it.
  • Once everyone is done, we walk out of the dining room and leave the dishes on the tables. There is no need to clean anything, because tonight or tomorrow night it will burn to the ground.
  • Pack-members walk to the hidden vehicles and take up their position, some already shifting to their Wolf form. Others hug and kiss their Pups, before they place them in the vehicles and when Inti gives the signal we all move out.
  • One after the other engine gets started and the moment six Warriors step across our border, the first vehicle follows them.
  • Inti is walking alongside the first vehicle, half of our Pack-members are in Wolf form and the other half will stay in Human form for the time being. It will take us about an hour to get to the wide open road, from there the rest will also shift to their Wolf form and we will pick up our speed.
  • Herold steps next to a vehicle about halfway down the line and I will make up the rear with six more Warriors. The rest of our Pack-members walk on either side of the convoy, the weakest on the inside and the strongest on the outside.
  • We all keep a close eye on our surroundings and our hearing is strained, we don’t want anyone to surprise us. The low hum of the engines is all we can hear, sometimes the crunching of leaves or twigs and if I listen close enough, I can hear the six Warriors with me breathe.
  • Everyone that can shift, shifts into their Wolf the moment we get to the open road and the vehicles start to pick up speed.
  • Our goal is clear, get to White Mountain Pack without losing a Pack-member and I will give everything I have to accomplish that. I will defend every Pack-member with my life, till my dying breath if I have to.
  • “Keep your eyes and ears open, we need to be ready for anything.” Inti says through the mind-link and as one we respond with “Yes, Alpha.”
  • Our convoy is getting on the way and our first stop will be in the morning at a large clearing, we will be staying out in the open to see an attack coming.
  • Maybe I will find someone in my parents Pack to spend the rest of my life with, but I know that I will never have the bond they have. No one in my generation will ever find it, we have lost the ability to find our fated Mate on the days of the Full Moon and that is why we are in the middle of a war.
  • No one knows if we will ever get that ability back or that we will have to find a Mate the way Humans once did.
  • I shake my head, I need to keep an eye on our surroundings instead of questioning everything. Griffin is jogging at a slow pace and despite the reason we are out here, he enjoys running with our Pack-members.
  • Griffin is keeping an eye on the Wolves that flank our convoy and I keep an eye on the tree lines on either side of us. The tree lines are far enough from us to see danger coming, but I would prefer to see it before they can emerge from the tree lines.
  • The moon provides us with enough light to see clearly and silently I thank our Goddess for lighting our path, it will make a huge difference if someone were to attack tonight.
  • A hand comes out of the last vehicle, it is a sign just for me and I strain my hearing. If they broke their pattern, we will be hearing an explosion in a few minute and if not, we will have a major head start on our enemies.
  • “They are sticking to their pattern, I haven’t heard an explosion.” I inform Inti and Herold, the only two that knew I wanted to be at the back of our convoy for a reason. If they had attacked tonight, they would have known we were on the move and they would have come for us.
  • Tomorrow we will be far enough away for them to no longer be a real threat, but there is no doubt in my mind that they will come for us. They just need to understand that if they follow, their Pack will be unprotected and I am not sure if they are that smart.
  • Even though our current enemies are unaware of what we are doing, I can’t let my guard down and risk the lives of our Pack-members.
  • We might run into other Packs that want to try to take our unmated females and we will protect them at all costs. No one has the right to force another into a life they don’t want.
